Newborn Pups

My cousin's 2 Boston terriers had pups last week.

Now one of the Mothers has died. He has put the other 4 with the othr Mom however he thinks it might be too much for her.

My question is would it be okay if I took the 4 and tried to feed them or let them stay. I really don't want them to die and both he and his wife work. I am at home and can do this.

Is 8 too much for a Boston. I would welcome some help on this.

I think you all need to consult a vet before making any type of decision.

I seems that the mother would be over loaded.

Should be fine. Just make sure the surrogate mom has plenty of food and water and can get a break if she needs one. She needs to be able to walk away from the pups to do her business and stretch out without being pestered by the little guys. Some litters have been in the double digits! Keep a close eye on them to make certain nobody is left out. Most pups actually have designated nipples, if the new pups are not feeding contact a vet for food, supplements and information on 24 hour feeding schedules.

Thanks for the answers.I have raised puppies before but not without a Mom. I appreciate the help.

Tiny puppies need to have their bellies massaged in order to eliminate. Mother dogs do this by licking, but you can rub their bellies if no mother is available.

I would definitely leave all the puppies with the surviving mom so they can learn proper doggy behavior and she can see to their elimination needs. I would consult a vet, though, about supplementing their feedings with formula to make sure everyone gets enough, because small dogs generally have small litters.

What happened to the mother? :(

8 puppies should be ok. I would definitely leave them with the other mother as long as everyone is doing well. Bottle feeding tiny puppies is VERY hard work. They don't just latch on easily to the nipples and it can be very frustrating. We had to do it last summer for some orphaned puppies and I hope I never have to do it again!

Maybe you can offer to go over and check on them a few times a day?

Puppies are doing fine right now. The other Mother just died. He doesn't know how.
I would go over but I am 4 hours away. We both have a love for animals.
He really should have had the girls fixed but I don't judge. The Poodle dug under his fence to get to the Mom's.
At least he was very small. And they should be cute being Boston- Poodle mixes. He is taking them to the vet today.
