Flea Treatment Problem

Hello,

I have 3 strictly indoor cats in an apartment complex. I've had flea problems in the past, and I imagine maybe I carry them in from outside.

Anyway, since they're indoor cats, I only treat them for fleas maybe once a year if I notice an outbreak. Mostly because I don't like the idea of so many chemicals in their bloodstream, and also because its extremely expensive to do 3 cats every month. I use the drops like Revolution, Advantage, etc. Never the grocery store brand.

The first time I treated them, 2 were fine and the third reacted very strangely. I was scared to death and nearly took him to the emergency vet. He huddled in the corner and wouldn't come out. His eyes were sort of glazed over. He was shaking and I immediately cleaned off the spot where it was and watched him closely and he got better pretty quickly after I removed it.

I didn't treat them again until the year after. I thought maybe the cat had a reaction to the brand, so I gave them another brand. These are reputable brands, bought from Amazon and pet stores so nothing questionable. He had the exact same reaction.

Obviously I'm not going to keep treating him because I don't want him to suffer over it, as it's clear it's the medication, not the brand. I can keep treating the other 2 as they show no ill effects, but my question is, do you think that will be enough? I've noticed a few fleas in my new apartment and I'm worried that if one cat is not treated, it might be enough to keep the flea problem going.

Any thoughts?
