Help with Ceiling color

The painter comes tomorrow and I haven't decided what to do.

Using SW Latte and Salute in Living room, dining and kitchen, Using SW China Doll in Family Room and hallways. What do I paint my ceilings? I had picked SW Creamy, but now worry it won't work. I am doing all trim in SW Extra White. We only have crown molding in family room, crown Molding

Funny you mention Creamy. It's like one of my core SW colors. I've used Creamy on exterior trim and columns, etc., interior trims and doors, etc., and it is a favorite for ceilings. So is SW's Muslin.

I'm not in the camp that poo-poo's white ceilings. I think a white ceiling functions beautifully and most importantly it satisfies the color tolerance for many people. Not everyone finds comfort in *color* on the ceiling. Acknowledging that means I've been responsible for many a white ceiling, and several of them have been SW Creamy.

It's a beautiful color. I describe a finished Creamy ceiling looking like there is a residual incandescent light - from some where - washed over the ceiling. Creamy has an inherent warmth and illumination. Course, it can depend on the inherent natural light if it works out that way, but I gotta say I've had pretty good luck with it.

Not sure if that helps or not. :)

Not everyone finds comfort in *color* on the ceiling. I don't. Tho I think it's really pretty in photos I've seen, living with it would be different. Somehow I get the feeling that I'd feel suffocated by color rather than enveloped in it. Plus I just don't have the style house that can pull it off. ;)

When I repainted the house last time around I used color everywhere (prior to that it was mostly off-whites). My trim is true white. Ceilings are white with just a few drops of yellow to give warmth (but not so much that it leans toward a yellow/gold cream, it's not discernible on the ceilings, only when held over a piece of stark white paper). I'm happy with it!

Yep, I actually prefer a nice color white on the ceiling too. I have one ceiling, the family room, where I painted the it the same as the wall color, but the rest of the house is a white ceiling with a bright white glossy crown.

Making blanket statements that white ceilings are like a plague is usually more of *designer* point of view, but it's not really the discipline that is architectural color which is coloring structure to support the humans who have to live and function within that space.

The cans of paint labeled "Ceiling White" is a separate issue -- that's not the kind of white ceiling we're talking about. It's really not a good white. If paint companies were smart, they'd sell "Ceiling Paint" in human-friendly colors of white -- would love to know the story of who thought the current "Ceiling White" was a good plan and WHY!

Similarly, making blanket decrees that all kitchen cabinets are better off white isn't necessarily applicable across all design styles and aesthetic tastes. Here in the SW, for example, there are many styles of homes where white cabinets in the kitchen would look absolutely ridiculous - just so out of place and not in harmony with the home's design.

We have cabinets hand-crafted in Texas/Mexico that uses a myriad of gorgeous woods that once stained offer an absolutely stunning range of rich, earthy, organic browns.
