HI -- Over twenty years ago (late 80's) I wouldn't have given you 2 cents for the quality of IKEA cabinets and now they are a lot better and much improved. A lot of pro designers use them now on general budget projects. I have not heard anything bad about them today . Better than what some of the big box hardware stores have.

My kitchen is almost ten years old and still works and looks great. Unfortunately some of the expensive appliances purchased at the same time haven't lasted as well - I changed the free-standing dishwasher to an integrated model recently and it was great to be able to go to IKEA and get a cabinet door to match the rest of the kitchen. Over the years I've changed the interior fittings of the cabinets as my storage needs have changed and am now thinking I might change the doors just to change the look.

I'm embarrassed to show any before photos. They are the original cabinets built on-site in the early 70's. I have had to take a couple out in order to fit in newer appliances--and I took out a couple of 2x4 "shop lights" and the wires are still hanging from the ceiling. This needs to be a budget job as I am retiring the end of December. Thanks for your comments and I'll go and look at the colors and styles of Ikea.
