sled(ing) dogs

Today was just warm enough to take the pack out in the back yard for a bit of a runabout. New street hockey balls were broken out of their wrappers and the fun began. DH threw the first ball down the hill and Pee Wee went running on the icy snow topping covering the yard. lol Oh what a hoot watching him try to stay on his feet while he chased the ball and went sliding past it. We had dogs sliding on their backs, hips, bellies and on all fours trying to run on hills and trying to avoid shrubs and trees.

Hope everyone had as much sunshine to enjoy today like we did. Had a nice car ride to the vets too. Abby is now 40.4 lbs.. That is 20 lbs in 2 months! She is doing great according to the vet and will be going on the 20th along with chester the cat to be spayed and neutered. We are sending them both together so Abby does not think she is being abandoned again since we were her 5th home in her young life.

We've been dog sitting and the temperatures here have been remarkable. Everything is melting, and fast!! The night before last, both dogs came in just COVERED in mud. I don't know what they got into, must've been playing detective under the deck, or something. But they had it all over their backs, heads, feet, everything.

That's the only good thing I can say about all the snow during winter, it keeps the dogs clean.

Anyways, I got to spend my night bathing two dogs at once. One being my beagle who runs to the back of the tub, with her paws on the edge, so I can't reach her. And the other who turns into a statue in the water and won't budge. It was an experience, lol.

Sheet-shredder sliding on slippery snow! We want pics !!

I can't get over Abby's angelic face. Your babies are lucky they have you to take such good care of them, lostnca.

Munkos, LOL I cant imagine trying to bathe the two at once. The worst we had to deal with was Pee Wee visiting the cow pasture across the street and rolling in every cow patty he could find. We are supposed to be getting some nice "warm" weather tomorrow +6c so we should have some of the ice melting off and it will be safe to get out and play ball again. I pray we don't get too many mud puddles.
Pranjal, Thanks for the compliment but I am just an average mom. lol Or Insane mom.. depending on the day. Some days I just want to go back to bed and pull the blankets over my head... oh wait.. I did that the other day only to have Abby wiggle her way up from the foot of the bed and snuggle in beside me. Its amazing how puppy kisses make you forgive and forget. lol

It was definately messy! I'm glad the other little guy is gone now. He's more than welcome back once the mud is gone, lol. My little girl is less inclined to roll in puddles and mud when she has no one to wrestle with.

I need a dog washing station, it's hard enough to bathe one, let alone two in a tub that has doors covering half of it. I'll tell ya, that beagle is terrified of water and she sure knows how to stay far away from me and the shower head. Hence why I usually have to get in with her!! Now I bet thats a site.

As much as the muddy feet and faces make you want to turn around and walk away for 10 mins and hope when you come back, they'll somehow magically be all clean..there's something just way too cute about a dirty puppy.

We talked about installing a bathing station for the dogs when we started the kitchen remodeling. Somewhere along the way the thought was lost in the big scheme of things and I dont have the heart to tear a newly drywalled wall out again. (3x in 2 yrs is enough for me) Someday I do want to live without inhaling drywall dust. Pee wee likes to swim in the bathtub and Daffy will tolerate it. Abby just sits and leans against the side of the tub till you lean her back the other way so its not too bad. Ive had my days of bathing with the hounds too. Your right.. its not a pretty site. lol
We have a ritual at our house.. I know this is TMI but when hubby gets home from work I run his bath and pour us a scotch. I have a small stool that I sit on next to the tub and dangle my feet in the water while hubby sits back and sips his drink and we talk about our day. One day Pee Wee decided he was joining hubby for his bath and I caught him leaping mid air and ended up herniating a disc in my back catching him. *yes you can laugh.. the doc and nurse at the ER did). However, they laughed harder the next week when I came in after trying to catch Pee Wee who escaped from the car at the grocery store when I was getting out. I was chasing him and fell and broke my elbow. Ok, if things were not bad enough, husband was out cutting trees the next week and Pee Wee was on a line to keep him from attacking the chain saw. He ran and the line wrapped around my ankle and tore the tendon. When I showed up at the hospital the intake nurse just looked at me and said... Why don't you just put that dog out of your misery? So these days I make sure I lock the bathroom door so Pee Wee can not join myself or my husband for fear I will have to go to the hospital again. I really do not think I could take the humiliation. We live in a small town after all. lol So, now that you know too much about us, I will close and say I think doggy bathing stations are a great idea! lol

Lol lorie, thats just way too funny. The things we put up with to have pets in our lives, hey?? Atleast you've got some good stories to tell!

I'm surprised our girl hasn't caused some broken bones in us. I'm sure it will happen one day, with the way she runs head down, full tilt, on the stairs, lol. We keep the little girl locked up when noisey things happen, or we would have some broken bones. I've never seen anything move so fast in my life when it gets noisey in the house. And she doesn't care what or who is in her way, she'll make her way through/over/around it any way possible.

Its amazing how much kinetic energy the hounds can get when they get running full tilt. I grew up with my parents owning a pet shop and I can not remember my life being as "exciting" as it is now. The personalities of the last two puppies *Abby and Pee Wee* are so different from any others that I have raised. I have never seen such exuberance from two dogs together as those two. Pee Wee had such issues before we got Abby but he is changing so much now. I am holding off taking him to the behaviorist till I can figure out what he is actually settling into since we adopted Abby.

Munkos, heaven forbid you get trapped in the hallway when the hounds are all rev'ed up. Ours tend to go through you if your in their way. My moms dog was just frantic when the 4th of July came around and that was the only noise she was ever afraid of. Thank goodness because it was like holding onto a greased pig to calm her down. Your right, we do put up with a lot to have our pets. But you know and I know we wouldnt have it any other way!
