raised cooktop

anyone have or seen a raised cooktop? Dont want to buy a new countertop. It presently is a solid surface one. The nice Ceran cooktop was broken by a falling hammer several years ago when Hubby was installing the ceiling /Priced a new glass top only but was as much as I paid for the whole new cooktop originally at he now gone CC moving sale

so kept an eye out, a found a new or slightly used glass cooktop at thrift store for $100.

Now that the custom cabinet are about finished ( after 10 years plus) decided to try the newer unbroken glass smooth top . the cabinetmaker and Hubby noticed that the cutout was smaller than the present broken cooktop.

Trying to save money plus the present countertop looks still good .....

So Hubby is considering leaving it up about an 2 inches or so resting on the corners of the cabinet supports. Plus he does not want to lose the 2 utensil drawers there...

Hubby thinks he can make a" box" to hide the showing parts... we are DIY ers so we hope to finish this house in our lifetime. LOL

any thoughts or pics.??? Plus we are bot not short so the extra couple of inches will be fine..

Thanks

Jean.
