BM has a cute living room using Stratton Blue on their website. Has anyone ever used this color?

It's funny you should ask! I just posted photos of Stratton Blue on another thread about aqua. It's currently near the bottom of the post. It's the sunporch, the last room I photographed. Stratton is a beautiful color on the chip, but I went with a more grayed down color for the walls in the bedroom. I love color, but my husband felt it would look like a giant bright Easter egg. It might have been better once it was all over the walls, but for us it works much better in small doses ;-)

Here it is in my basement guest room. I would describe it as saturated rather than bright. It is a very pretty greenish blue.

Happy, I think you're right; saturated is probably a better word. In the darker shaded recesses of the porch, the color is perfect. When I have the overhead light on or direct sunlight coming in, that's when I'm glad it's only an accent color. But your room is gorgeous. I think such a rich color is perfect for a basement setting like yours.

I love that bedroom. And I love the living room they had over on the site, wish I could figure out how to post it here.

I think it is a great color. And apparently, some agree:

I'm planning to use stratton blue in my dining/kitchen. The walls will have 6' wainscoting painted creamy white to match the cabinets in the DR, so the only blue will be the 3' above it in there, and around the tops of the cabinets (barely visible.) I'm hoping it'll work out - I wanted something of a green/blue because the black soapstone counters have tinges of green in spots, and it's a beach house. Here's one of my corbels showing the finish, with the other kitchen elements. It's the darkest color on the chip. That tile might not be the final choice for the backsplash.

I just painted a sample board with this for my living room. I decided against it because it was a lot more green once I had it bigger then on the strip. (I mean, it is the exact same color on the board and on the strip, but seeing it bigger made me realize how green it truly is). I was thinking of pairing it with Palladium Blue in an open plan, and was actually pretty certain about it, but ended up nixing both colors as too pastel and, frankly, easter-y, particularly together.

Obviously it depends on your space and what you like too! Based on my experience, I would recommend getting a sample first though, just to make sure. Good luck!

Myredhouse, if you like the look of Stratton and Palladian but think they're too bright, try the colors on the strips including Raindance and Beach Glass on the BM classic color fandeck. They have the same blue green tone but much more muted.

Thanks for the tip! I'll check those out tomorrow.

Just wanted to clarify that the Healing Aloe/Quiet Moments/Beach Glass/Mount St. Anne and Night Mist/Gray Wisp/Imperial Gray/Raindance strips look VERY washed-out, but on the walls, the blues and greens really intensify and give the loveliest muted shades with a hint of tropical-esque aqua that is NOT screaming swimming pool. Very elegant and sophisticated but still full of life and beautiful color.

I am basing my entire home's color story on these hues. I saw a gorgeous renovation of a Brooklyn brownstone where the owner used Silver Fox in the main living areas and came with sea greens and aqua-ish blues in all the other rooms. She even used a bright Caribbean blue (BM Waterfall) in the closets and one of the spare rooms. GORGEOUS!!!

I tried Silver Fox, but I found gray a bit too cold. I ended up with SW Ramie (a creamy khaki with a green undertone) for the main rooms, and plan on using Beach Glass or Mount St. Anne in the master with the bathroom in Raindance or Imperial Gray. The back wall of my LR (the Ramie room) is part of the kitchen and will be a blue-green (currently painted BM Azores - a saturated blue green from the Affinity line). I might throw a really fun bright aqua in the laundry/pantry that is off the kitchen and in the closets. I also plan to try a pale blue or blue-green on the ceilings. Everything will be tied together with BM White Dove - I plan on using that color for all trim and doors. I just adore blues and greens - they are so fresh and invigorating and go so well where I live in the New Orleans area. The climate here is very similar to the Caribbean and I have tons of gingers and bananas right outside the windows that give a tropical effect. I am so excited that I have an overall plan. Before I would just do one room at a time without any overall vision, which led to a choppy look. I am SO OVER the sages and reds and golds that have dominated the decorating scene for so long!

jockewing I'm now scared of Stratton blue for my beach house DR, so I looked at those very colors to perhaps use instead. Though on the chips, they definitely look more blue than green (beach glass - which I had already planned on using in the upstairs bath - and Mt. St. Anne) - but I'm notoriously bad for picking paint of chips - would you say they are more blue? Raindance looks more green, so that's a leading contender, as well as maybe catalina or del mar blue.

The linked thread I posted above for Stratton Blue has a picture of my bedroom and bathroom in Mount Saint Anne. Jockweing is right about the chip looking washed out but the paint on the wall being beautiful. I would say Mount Saint Anne is more blue than green overall, but definitely has enough green to make it a true subtle aqua. I think Raindance did have more green, if memory serves me. I don't have a BM fandeck, but I poured over those chips for weeks. I found MSA after trying at least four other "soft" aquas and all were too much.

BTW, SW did a good job coloring matching MSA in the sample quart, if you want to test any of those colors (they have it in the computer already). I bought the sample in SW but used BM paint and it was extremely close.

Thanks equest, I saved your pics to show DH when he gets home - as well as the pics of stratton blue (his first choice.) I think you're right that MSA does have a touch of green - I'll probably do a sample of that and raindance to see how they look with the lighting in my room. Whichever we choose, the ceiling will likely be a lighter color 2 shades up on the same chip, so that might be a consideration. Or at least, that was the original plan LOL.

I hate picking paint. And i have to do it for the entire house. LOL

The Raindance strip definitely reads as a green, but with a touch of blue. The MSA strip is the yin to Raindance's yang, as it reads as a blue with a touch of green. My 2 all time favorite paint strips!
