Drapes are hung!

I finally hung them. I have no luck when it comes to decorating. First I had bought the wrong size rods. Had to return them. Then I bought the wrong lenght drapes. Had to return them. Then the rings I had first bought, the space between the clip and ring was long, so they hung strange, so back to store with them. I wonder what the sales people, no less security thinks at JCP?

Anyway, they are done. I need some advise or tweaking.

Here are the pics:

Study This was the original plan

This is what I like best. Does it work?

Susan, they are beautiful! And yes, what you did in the study is perfect; makes the window look taller and more square, much nicer look IMO. I love both of them and you shoud be proud of yourself.

Don't know about the curtains, but, the cat is to die for! LOL Yes they look awesome, BOTH of them.

I think the rods in the large window need to be extended further out to the sides so you don't end up with those tiny strips of wall space on either end. It will allow the drapes on the ends to sit just over the outside edges of the window, giving you more open window space and better balance, imo. It will also make a nicer backdrop on either side for the furniture.

    The drapes are lovely!

They look great! Love your kitty too.

    They look great! Nice study!

Unsolicited opinion: Pull your leather chair out just a bit from the corner of the study.

    Very lovely home!

LOVE that study! I like the 2nd pic (the one you like best)

The DR wt did nice too.

    Great job, again!

Yes, love what you did with your drapes. I'll second the pull out the leather chair comment, and raise you one "and angle it a bit toward the center of he room."

    Everything looks great.

    Congrats on your new kitty!

    I love your drapes, too!

Since I was looking at Penneys, I wonder if you would tell me the style/color you chose. I'm thinking of putting brown in my red DR.

I have a wall of windows that I really need help with. The length of the windows themselves (there are four windows within one frame) is 124.5" or 10.375 feet, with 13" wall space on either side. The height (to the ceiling) is 103" or so? I don't know where to start!

I like the look of the drapes better on your second study window; however, I can see a nice view outside of the first one, which would give me pause. I think either one would work--depending on how nice the view outside is and your need for privacy. Congrats on hanging them youself. It look us a few tries (and reordering the right stuff) to get it right; but it really makes you feel satisfied of a job well done!

I just got Window Treatments and Slipcovers for Dummies from the library, hope it helps with the measurements.

I meant to post on this last night. I really like what you did. The study drapes I love. It's hard to choose hardware and draperies, it's hard to hang correctly. In my master I had my DH hang the bamboo blinds under the drapes and he went too high, but I didn't have the heart to tell him it was off. When I finally get my other window done in there, we will move it.
    Nice choices!

Thank you all for your kind comments.

I was thrilled with the outcome, but I can't help but second guess myself all the time.

So, now my next big project is hemming them. Yuck, hate to sew. I have no patience for it, but they need to be done.

After that, accessories! Love that part. Any suggestions are welcomed.

    Again, thanks!

The drapes look great and so does that cutie of a cat!!

Hi Susan : ) Hope you're having luck with finding your new rug. Haven't been following the drape saga, but if it were me :) I'd hang the dr drapes higher and just over the side edge of the inset. The elegant elongation and additional light is a nice touch, I think. But we know you're not gonna do that! lol

I also think it would be pretty to put your buffet/storage along the back window, bringing some accessories in there with a couple of pretty lamps, and bringing the table forward a bit.

Just my $.02. Your house is really coming together! I like the study drapes both ways : )

    Squirrel,

I was thinking that maybe higher would be better also. It seems to me that the valance is a bit too long inside the inset. But I felt the drapes needed to be inside, what other reason for the inset than.

As for moving the chandelier, impossible. I had it moved once already, and dh couldnt handle another move. The ceiling has texture and it took alot of work to cover up the first hole. But, I do like what it looks like. I am keeping this idea in the back of my head, and see maybe there would be another way.

    Thanks
    Susan

Can you raise the valance outside the inset but not the drapes? That's why I pulled the drapes out, actually. Maybe I can't think right now :]

Is there enough room for a buffet without pulling the table forward?

Oh, I do like squirrel's last version with the drapes higher and the buffet in back. Havnig them so low really brings down the ceiling visually. As for moving the chandelier, another option instead of retexturing/patching is to put up a center medallion on the ceiling where the chandelier hangs from the center point. I've seen some at Lowes, though don't know how simple they'd be to install. I can sympathize, though. My DH would say it looks good enough. Perhaps showing him squirrel's pic would help.

    Squirell and val,

My BIL is in the hospital, and my sister just had her knee replaced, so I am taking care of her for a few days.

As soon as I get back I will be back in my decor mode and look at the possibilities.

I dont want you all to think I am ignoring your help.

    Thanks Susan

I had to LOOK to find your cat hee hee.. Sorta like Where's Waldo! He's precious!
I love the second photo of the curtains instead of the original plan. They are gorgeous - great job!
