I think the taller cabs will look better in this space. Also I noticed your lower cabs are all doors, more and more in new design people prefer to use large drawers in the lower cabinet runs as opposed to doors with pull-outs. They are easier to use and hold more than the pull out shelves in cabinet doors. My kitchen is small and I plan on using almost all drawers in my lower cabinets. Anyway, it is something to consider.

My ceilings are also 10 feet. We did a complete kitchen renovation and didn't put them all the way to the top- we wanted a staggered effect. On top we have lights so it does look nice at night. In retrospect I wish we brought them all the way up to the top- it's a regret looking back. I also agree with the poster who said drawers on the bottom- we have both drawers and doors- it works well for us. We have the Wolf 48 inch too but it's all gas. I wish now I did the duel fuel. So much to learn looking back. Our kitchen is large too- it almost makes it harder to bring everything to scale. I can send you pictures if you email me- I am not good at posting pictures here it takes me forever.

If you don't go all the way to the ceiling you will collect a ton of dust on top of your cabinets (I speak from experience) - but you have to decide which look you like better -- The cabinets in the picture have a large piece of filler molding to reach the ceiliing - do you like that look or do you want the actual cabinets to be taller?

Does you kitchen ceiling exist - or are you creating it? Our architect talked about 10-12 foot ceilings but the rest of our house is 8 foot (historical house) and I thought that it would not be harmonious to have the ceiling be these soaring ceilings so we have compromised and brought them down to under 9 feet.

One other thing I noticed about your kitchen - does it bother you that the sink is not centered under the windows? I can see not putting it in the center of the middle window if that makes opening other cabinets difficult, but is there a reason it isn't centered under the left window also? I also noticed that the range wall has uppers and lowers balanced and sink wall does not - do you like it that way? I bring it up because when we did our first kitchen I assumed the kitchen cabinet guy would think about these things because it was his every day job -- yeah, not so much - so we ended up with glass front cabinets with different size panes because he just filled the space.

I loved this kitchen (but only lived there a short 7 months!) Our new house is also 10' ceilings, and I am not going to the top... and really, I don't know why I didn't! (talked out of it). Anyway - I do like them to the ceiling. Over the frig they had to create a soffit, but I still think it looked great.

One thing I noted is that your lower cabinets seem to be drawn as all doors, with a single shelf, except for 1 lonely drawer bank. Many Garden Web posters advocate having more drawers and fewer doors, for much better access to the contents of the cabinets. Rather than squating down and reaching back into a 24" deep space, shifting things around trying to find what you want, you simply slide the drawer open and its right there.

I also advocate that almost anywhere that you decide against putting in drawers, you should at least have roll out trays for nearly as easy access.

Also a few people here installed long rollout drawers in the bottoms of their banquette seats, which is a great idea for additional storage if you need it.

I think we've decided to go with running the cabinets all the way up. Topping w/ glass fronted cabinets.

I'm guessing we'll just move the molding to the top to make a transition between the cabinets and the ceiling - similar to tinker's.

This is a new house. We have 10' ceilings in foyer, dining, master, and kitchen. The family room is vaulted from 10' to 15'. The back haul, laundry, etc. are 8'.

We have been considering adding more drawers in cabinets and some open cabinets w/ drawers - definitely opposite the range - for pots, etc.

borngrace - we are going to do something about the sink. My wife had noticed that and I didn't until you brought it up. We also have a problem with the cabinets lining up. The arch. has new drawings for that area. The cabinet in the middle is supposed to be more like a separate piece of furniture - taller and sticking out. We'll see.

I also have 10' ceilings with cabinets all the way up. I love the look and it fits with the scale of my kitchen too. The one downfall though is those cabinets are pretty much for show only. It's not practical for me to drag out the step stool every time I would need something up there so I don't use them at all. The glass ones only have one lonely decorative fish plate on display. I need to get something really bright to add color. Most people don't even notice my poor fishy! LOL!

Good decision we did two thirty inch cabinets plus crown molding. Looks great and the storage is fabulous.

About AG48 wolf vs. duel fuel- someone asked above, sorry I am not able to quote the post but...the reason I regret it is I like the look of the feet on the bottom of the duel fuel. Also, that combustion smell used to drive me nuts- now I don't mind it, or notice it. Also they are not self cleaning- right now one of mine already needs to be cleaned (the larger oven) or the whole house smokes up, and it hasn't been used *that* much!
Make sure if you get the AG that you get the newer model who's doors don't slam all the way down when you open it. THe newer ones do not do this. Mine was probably one they had in the warehouse because they've been out for over a year now.
