does this mirror work

I am redoing my small bathroom on the first floor and got a great deal on a vanity and vanity top at the Home Depot Expo closing sale. It isn't what I was originally going to do in there but I like it and couldn't pass up the price. I don't like the mirror that is available with the vanity and am wondering if this mirror will go with this vanity.

What about one of these sconces. I have a hard time visualizing things.

I know maybe too much to ask about in one post thanks in advance.

I think you could make that work - it's unexpected and that's what I like about it. I personally lean to sconce #1 in the nickel finish as you suggest. #3 I think definetly would be competing with the mirror. Your wall colour could really visually tie this together - what are you thinking about for paint?

I hadn't even thought about paint at all. I feel like a crazy bunny flitting this way and that as we are doing new carpet throughout the house, painting and decorating guest room and redoing bathroom. All of which needs to be done before oldest son's HS graduation on May 21 and I am so slow at making decisions. I was so glad to find this vanity and for such a good price as it took one decision away from me by having to get it right then or missing out on it.

My house is very warm colors and the floor tile will be a travertine look porcelin very neutral which I will probably use for the tub surround too. am thinking of doing a glass tile accent in tub not sure what colors yet and trying to keep neutral enough to use different towels and shower curtains so as not to get tired of one thing. Right now the tile is a ugly 80's dusty green tile which goes with nothing.

Personally I think the style of the mirror does not compliment the vanity. However I do think the 1st choice of scones suits it well, clean & simple. I'd probably go with the poliched nickel. I guess it comes down to what you find attractive.

Thanks eroz that is what I am afraid of. I love the mirror but maybe it really doesn't go. Any ideas of what style mirror will go well with this vanity.

I would pick a pivot mirror with no frame , Restoration Hardware has them in all sizes and shapes, an oval perhaps and the first sconce, it has gentle curves to soften the look of the vanity, which I like a lot, btw.

I think the vanity and the mirror you showed are too far apart in style, imho.

I'm afraid I have to agree. I love the clean lines of the vanity, but I don't think the style of the mirror works with it. I also like sconce #1 in nickel with the vanity.

thanks everyone, I know you are right. I was hoping to go with a framed mirror since what we have had in there is a huge frameless mirror that covered the whole wall and I wanted to have a focal point but maybe I will have to do that with art or something else than the mirror. I do appreciate the honesty its just what I need since I get stuck. I will look at pivot mirrors which is what I have upstirs in my son's bathroom no oval though I hate ovals, not sure why but I do. Maybe I need to think a bit more about the mirror that is supposed to go with it. here is a link to the two of them together and the mirror up close.

I think the mirror is wonderful, and I think you can get away with it just fine. Clearly, you like both things, and I think it will work if you use a pair of very simple modern sconces like the Powell from Restoration Hardware (see the link), a rich, dramatic warm color on the wall, a shower curtain with a big pattern that echoes the mirror frame in more neutral colors, and a primitive natural or oriental rug on the floor. I'd suggest very plain towel bars in a cast iron or bronze finish, and keeping the towels all one color. Depending on the floor plan, I'd say keep your stuff inside a cabinet or in closed baskets on a tall skinny bookcase shelf to keep the focus on the bold statement.

Mixing styles can give you a much more lively room than going with things that are all the same. It's harder to do well, but there is lots of inspiration out there. Modern things mix very well with the texture of some tribal, ethnic bits, and one or two ornate bits like your mirror. Just avoid any clutter, and I think you'll love your room.

I would go with a less ornate, simpler mirror.

I personally think it is a little too ornate for the vanity. Just my 2 cents worth. Also, I love sconce #1 because it is very simply and I do think it would look lovely with the lines of the vanity.

What is it about the mirror that goes with the vanity that you don't like? The little knob and drawer thing at the bottom, or the plainness of the frame? If the former, then maybe you can buy a rectangular wood-framed mirror. I think the ornate one is not a good match to the vanity. I also like the first sconce.

Totally agree with Bronswynsmom. I eluded to that in the first post but she expressed more the reasons why that unusual combination could work. It is harder to do for sure, but it could be very interesting as opposed to "the usual".

The colour I could see in there is a neutral deep grey/beige to tie in the disparate mirror and vanity. Maybe something like B. Moore Ashpalt cc-548 or spanish olive (sometimes known as Beach Glass)cc-606 Revere Pewter would be great also. All of these colours are neutral and since your home has warm tones throughout you could just add 1 small interesting warm toned accent that you already have in your house ie. red perhaps, dark brown, cream, etc.(just 1 though), in something as simple as a small bud vase with 1 fower in it.

If it was my decision it would hinge on the fact of whether or not I loved the mirror just on its own. If it makes you happy you will love it, it you are not so crazy about it, it would just be work to pull it together!
Good luck - keep us posted!

wow you guys are amazing I am still in the decision factor I may just have to order that one and a simpler one and see which one speaks to me. I am going with the simpler sconce for sure though. I will let you all know how it turns out.

I can see others already weighed in against the mirror (me too). The style of mirror which immediately jumped to mind when seeing your great vanity and sconce (first one) is a frameless or really unobtrusively framed oval mirror, like the ones seen here at RH. I am so excited about your great deal and your son's graduation!

The mirror will work but I would forget the sconces above. You probably need a less ornate sconce since your vanity is fairly modern and your mirror is not. I would keep with the color of the faucets and mirror when buying a sconce.
