need a cure for stinky dog

My dog smells bad. Not like skunk or poo, but like vomit. I don't know what caused the smell but its b a d. I've hosed her down twice but she still smells. She;'s not acting sick or unusual in any way. She just smells bad. What can I use to wash her to get rid of the smell? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. I don't want to spend money on grooming just now. Any home remedies? Again, I greatly appreciate any and all suggestions.

Have you given her a bath? Just hosing won't be enough if she rolled in something yucky.
Otherwise she might have eaten something that is coming through her pores. When my dogs eat too much fish, they smell fishy.

Vomit?? Hmmm. I can't think of what would cause a dog to smell like vomit other than vomit. She may have found something smelly and decided to have a romp in it. I'm lucky in the fact the Capone only rolls in fresh-cut grass. Could be a lot worse.

For general stinky-ness, I'd say give her a sudsy dog shampoo bath (depending on when the last time she was washed), concentrate on her feet and check her ears.

I wonder if tomato juice would help with odors other than skunk? Might be worth a try if the shampoo isn't helping.

Well it's one day after "the big bath" and she seems odor-free. Either that or my nose stopped working, teehee!

Honestly, my dogs smell pretty allot. I use a product I buy from my Vet. "Waterless shampoo" Its fragrance is "Mango" My therapy dogs get a bath prior to ALL thier AAT visits. Later, Love, Lisa

being dogs like to roll in dead things, and other dogs wastes..be prepared to give the dog a real bath with tepid water and with specific formulated dog products. The best shampoo for dogs for simple cleaning is a good doggie oatmeal shampoo. Just make sure you rinse rinse rinse any shampoo used. Leaving trace amounts of soap can really effect the skin quite negatively. I have a walk in shower that my dog goes in and out of quite easily, if you don't have one try and find at least a hand held spray hose that can atttach to your tub faucet. If your dog continues to have smell problems and you are sure it's not getting into things I would make an appointment with a Veterinary dermatologist as he/she may have an actual health problem that is effectig it's skin and coat.

our dog smelt bad, it was an ear infection. check the ears for a fowl smell. if so mix 50-50 white vinegar and water and wash ears carefully and dry with cotton wool. if does not clear up you will need to see a vet good luck

My dog is at the groomer now.

Also be sure to check the dog's back end, as infected anal glands are overpoweringly stinky. If that's the problem, you'll need to see the vet to have the glands emptied and for antibiotic.

In my experience, the better my dog's diet, the less he smells overall and the sweeter his breath is.

There is a new product called Geneflora for pets, www.cycles of Life. New Breakthrough Probiotic Formula For the following conditions: Lack of energy, bloating, constipation, stinky gas, diarrhea, allergies, yeasty ears, bad breath I am not a spokesperson for this product. It is fairly expensive but I liked the results for my dogs. Good bath using vinegar and or baking soda helps too, then shampoo as usual, they roll in stuff, one needs to stay on top of problem. Good luck!

My dog smell too, but we gave him a bath and the smell is still there. Kind of like dead fish or something rotten..... but i would like a clean doggy!! Any more ideas??

That last one sounds like anal glands. If it continues, you may have to have the vet (or vet tech) express them. It should NOT be a full cost visit.
