need help

So I've been in my house for 2 years now and I'm starting to get it looking the way I like. But the living room is giving me some trouble. I have it set up the best way for the layout of the room I think and most of the furniture is on one side of the room. So this leaves a big empty spot on the other side and I have no clue what do with it. Any help would be much appreciated. Plus I'm a guy so my decorating sense is pretty limited.

Is your TV in a fixed position? If not, could you slide it over, more toward the middle of the room?

Then, bring the sofa, love seat, rug and coffee table along for the ride. You'd be moving the seating out from the walls and have, at least, the sofa legs on your rug.

The room should feel and look better that way as you really don't need any more furniture.

How about a decorative chair and end table for a small sitting area. Depending on your style a contemporary chair or an antique looking chair with an animal print-fabric seat. On the side table you could place a lamp on it for reading and maybe some decorative books.

Since you are a "guy", do you have a group over to play cards, etc?.....if so, maybe you could put a round game table in that area....just a thought.

    Hi Altecman,

I think you have done well with the space you have to work with. I do notice that all the furniture is arranged in a straght L shape. You could consider adding a not-huge easy chair to the left of the sofa, in front of the end table, & put it at an angle aiming between the lower left corner of the coffee table & the rug.

Hi! I think you've done a great job!

Do you need that hutch? How about replacing it with an easy chair, placed at a diagonal in the corner?

That would relieve the perpendicularity (is that a word???) of your room.

well as a guy you might like to have a game table, or a small desk and chair, or a chair with a lamp and table for a reading area..two chairs with a table and lamp in between for a reading conversation area..a pub table with 2 chairs..a library corner, would the hutch fit into the dining room, seems your scale might be a bit off on your drawing..but is the doorway by the loveseat crowded or comfortable..as was suggested above you might want to slide everything down the other end a bit..maybe a lot..if it would work out better..and i agree that havng the furniture a bit closer together on the rug might be a bit better and adding a chair..hope these ideas helped

Is that the only window you have? If so I'd put a bookcase where the hutch is, a comfortable chair in front of the window and a floor lamp beside it and use is as a reading area with great natural light. Obviously, that wouldn't work if reading isn't your thing. However, a comfy chair there wouldn't hurt at any rate.
