Wow-the backsplash has a lot of detail and color! I have Santa Cecilia granite and I think this might compete with it? I can see it looking great with the odyssey you have posted though....very hard to picture it together-the marble in the inspiration picture is very light and not a lot of detail in it to compete?
I got a quote for just tile on one backsplash for $3100-we didn't do it b/c I find that outrageous-including the labor for one like these it might not be too high? We are no going to pay $1500 including labor though....so probably depends on where you live. Did you get a discount on the tile from your GC maybe? Good luck-I do love this picture!

I think you'd be happier with the darker granite against the backsplash (doesn't compete, sets it off better). I think the VS on the island will repeat the backspash color in another part of the room, which is something designers suggest.

Just my two cents, I'm no designer by any means...I'd go with something as solid and evenly colored as possible anywhere it's going to touch that backsplash. That's a backsplash that's meant to shine, not compete. I think the dark would be a nice contrast.

Does the $3200 cover the whole backsplash or just the area begind the range? if it the whole thing, I think the price is OK.

It shouldn't add too much to the cost to do the niche either. Especially if you square it off instead of making the arch. It is just framed out with 2x4s and covered with either drywall or tile backerboard.

Thanks for the replies! I was online looking at the brown granites today. I tend to think everything has to be a perfect match and I really want to get out of that habit w/ this new build. The pic is from the Sonoma Tile Co. website. The current pic only shows the area under the hood and not the wider view like the pic I posted.

Cleo - The $3200 was for the whole backsplash. The main wall is 16' and I don't know if the KD was going to carry it over to the other 5'. I really just wanted to get a ballpark figure so I would know if I needed to go another route (read that as cheaper). We aren't starting until May, so I have plenty of time to figure this out. I have gotten so many ideas from this forum!

Your experience explains why my kids got a granite bath! The 5' countertop with two sink cutouts was $2400 in Silestone (which we had picked the tile flooring and shower to match). We put in granite for $600.

Beautiful backsplash. If your KD just gave you a "ballpark" on the backsplash I might be suspicious. I came this close to getting something from Sonoma Tile and the price was breathtaking. Still love the tile though....
