Oh that's a tough one on the window. It's so much better to have the sink in the center that I think I'd leave it that way. And yes, I'd beg dh to move the door.

Having the range under the window presents a few challenges.
In some jurisdictions code won't allow it.
In jurisdictions where code does allow it, the window needs to be a fixed pane, so that it can't open.
Additionally, if you're going to have a range hood, it will be about 30" above your range top, thereby obstucting your view.
It's hard to tell from your illustration, but if there's enough space for the dishwasher to be next to the sink on the range wall, I'd swap the sink/dishwasher combo and the range.
As for open shelving, while I like the look, it seems to me that they'll collect a lot of dust.
But, there are others here who have and love them.
Also I agree with "marti8a", definetly move the pantry door.

One more thing.
Having looked more closely at your illustration, I might consider expanding the kitchen into the pantry and installing a wall of cabinets along the wall adjoining the bathroom to act as a pantry.
This, of course, providing that there's nothing in that wall to prevent this.

I have often wished I'd situated my kitchen so that the stove is across from the wide part of the island for a great prep space. Having the island across from the sink does nothing for me, compared to what the space across from the stove offers. For that reason, alone, I'd want the stove where you show the sink.

Also, most fridges can't open properly right up against the wall. So you might have to plan a broom closet or something to the left of it, or you might not be able to get your drawers out of the fridge, etc.

Here is a better updated pic of the original layout. I think what i might ask dh to do is build the refrigerator 6 - 8" into the pantry wall so that the refrigerator will sit flush with the cabinets. Thoughts on the layout anyone???
