Try that or BKF or Cameo (another powdered cleanser). Zud is another one; it's a little stronger (I use it to remove metal marks from dishes.

I wouldn't use powdered cleanser on the front of a fridge -- catmom's a pal but I disagree with that.

First, I'd try some SS cleaner -- 3 M or Method wipes. Stainless doesn't etch. It can get heat tint but otherwise it's not a reactive metal.

It's likely that whatever is coating it (depends on how you clean it regularly) was removed by acid in the mustard.

There are numerous threads on what people use to clean their SS -- I'd check those for product recommendations first. Anything abrasive risks creating a permanent spot since it does scratch if you sneeze.

rococogirl, i tried the method with the microfiber towels I clean it with. Didn't touch it. I think I'm going to try the Bon Ami and hopefully it will work. If not then the BK. I didn't think stainless would discolor. Must be the grade of stainless they use. Marti9a, I'll let you know. Hopefully it will be what to use and not what not to use!

Sorry roc, I still have to tout powdered cleanser on SS. That is, regular SS, NOT a specially treated or coated/lacquered SS (like the type that is supposed to resist fingerprints or smudging). All of the above (Bon Ami, BKF, Cameo, even ZUD) list cleaning SS as one of their suggested uses on their cans.

Another thing you might try, is a dab of Goo Gone on a piece of paper towel.

catmom, I always trust you. Sorry the cleaner didn't budget the stain. I have a lot of stainless, including counters, but appliances are not always the same. Let us know how it goes Maggie.

Just about any metal can be damaged by the right (wrong) chemicals.

Most stainless steels are vulnerable to attack by chloride, as in the chloride ion in the mustard from plain old salt.

You can try and clean away any surface damage (it often appears as a whitish powder) and then assess how much damage remains.

Most larger cities have someone who knows how to polish stainless back to a uniform appearance.

Call an appliance store and talk to them.
They likely know who does the work in your area (they also fix scratches).

Thanks so much Catmom, it came off with BKF. I was just so afraid of making it worse. Now it looks brand new. Think DS was as surprised as me a little mustard did what it did. Thanks again!
