I wish rather than that short built in backsplash that you tiled the entire back wall. It would look great and be a nice back drop for a framed mirror above the sink. Have you considered using a table top adjustable, lit mirror for your make up side?

At the end of the day... the lighting will look great if it is installed overhead but to apply your makeup - I would just get a table top lit mirror. You can still get a very nice lit table top adjustable, rotating mirror in any size from Ulta or Sephora. They have all different lighting selections too (you can set it to daylight, lowlight, etc.). If you decide to install overhead lights too, it would just supplement the mirror's light.

It will look less crowded too if you use only a table top lamp and keep the focus on lighting your sink area :-) Have fun with this project!
