Just so you know, hamsters spend every waking minute (and possibly dreamtime too) thinking of ways to escape from their cages.

See if the pet store has a book about hamsters and their care, because those are a very helpful reference.

Are these the larger, Siberian hamsters or little Russian dwarf hamsters? It matters a lot, because Siberian hamsters don't like living with others and will fight to the death once they reach adulthood. Even littermates and mothers and their babies will fight as adults. Dwarf hamsters, on the other hand, enjoy living together as long as they are together from the beginning.

Dwarf hamsters are best kept in an aquarium with a screened lid. They like to burrow into the litter and crawl through paper towel tubes. Some will use a wheel, but most don't.

Siberian hamsters need a wheel in order to get enough exercise. Without it, they get some type of paralysis. They like those little plastic houses to hide inside and shelfs or different levels in their cages for climbing.You can buy little chew sticks for them to wear their teeth down on. All rodent teeth grow continuously and they need to chew to keep them from growing too long.

You can feed the packaged hamster mix, yogurt drops, bits of fruit or vegetable (not too much), and nuts. Also, for litter stay away from cedar and pine because they can be toxic over time. Aspen and recycled paper ones are safe.
