I have 2 small dogs, a rat terrier and a minpin. They each weigh about 14 lbs. We walk them for an hour every day and I'm sure they could go for much, much more than that. The minpin runs around ALL day long in our fenced in back yard. I don't think I could tire them out if I had to. Unfortunately my old legs won't walk for more than an hour.

as long as the terrain is not too hard to get over, I have taken out my friends Chihuahua (13 pounds) and his best friend a Minature Chihuahua (teacup at a grand total of 4 pounds) for 5 mile walks - yup FIVE miles. I made certain the little one who is an applehead, has enough water - tho they both prefer gatorade out on the trail. Every now and then we double check to make certain she has not 1.Fallen behind, 2.Been picked up by a raptor or other predator, 3.She is not too close to a larger dog *basically she is one bite from anything bigger than her, and she is an alpha female and will go after anything and anyone. 4.Is not in some distress. Both Chis keep up with my bull Mastiff husky mix without trouble.

Six weeks ago I rescued a Boston Terrier/ Sheltie mix who weighs 14 pounds and is 9 months old. We have walked 2-3 miles a day since that day plus he races around the yard as well..

thanks for your input. I Googled my question late last night and found a forum where they were discussing this. I realized very quickly that Digby can go a lot further than I thought. This morning we went a couple of miles and I just slowed my pace down a little. He seemed fine.
