Adopted a new dog :)

Last month I had to put down my sweet Charlee. She was an American Eskimo / Border collie mix. I had her for almost 16 years before I had to let her go.

Last week I decided to check the local animal shelter and see what they had and I couldn't believe it when I saw they had an American Eskimo that had been turned in by his owner. I HAD to go meet him. I took my husky with me (she was also adopted from this same shelter) to go meet him. It was love at first sight! He is 2 yrs old, house trained and obedience trained too and has fit right into our family with no problems. I also have another American Eskimo and the two of them are getting along great.

Anyway, I highly recommend adopting a shelter pet! They deserve another chance at a good life and it makes me really happy that I could give him a good home!

Here is a picture of my new dog Sammy.

ADOPT and save a life!

What a nice dog, beautiful sweet face! He's lucky you found him and now he has "brothers" or "sisters" to play with. What did you name him? Don't you wonder how/why people give up nice dogs like that? I just wonder what happened!?

Thanks for the nice comments everyone. His previous family named him Sammy and we chose to keep that name. I do wonder what happened with his previous family. He is so sweet and well mannered that I can't imagine why someone would dump him. Poor baby was at the shelter for a week before I found him. I guess there could be all kinds of reasons of why someone didn't want to keep him. He appears to have been a very spoiled boy. Wants to cuddle on the couch all the time and he jumps in the bathtub for a drink. He knows the commands sit, down, speak, shake and rollover and maybe others that I have not discovered yet.

When we adopted the husky a couple of years ago the shelter said that her owner turned her over to them because they could not afford to feed her. She was so skinny, only weighed 24 lbs and was about a year old. She quickly put on some weight once we got her but she still is a petite little girl for a husky. She has also been a great dog. I was worried about getting her but my son really wanted her so I caved in. I had read online about all the destructive behavioral issues that huskies can have and was afraid that she might be hard to handle but she has been such a sweetheart and is good in the house. She also had some obedience training.

I have to say, it is nice to get a dog that is already trained and past the puppy stage of chewing everything in the house. My other eskimo was a very naughty puppy and didn't outgrow the chewing phase until he was almost two years old.

Feel free to share pictures and stories of your rescue pets.

Linda, you are an ANGEL !!!!!! I cant understand how people can throw away a pet and never look back.Your fur babies are beautiful and so lucky to have you as their Mommie. My current dog (my friend named Dutchess) was taken to a groomer and the owners called and said they didnt want her back, she was 5 when they dumped her,I have had her for 5 years now,my vets office was able to track down the vet she had been to and she hadnt seen a vet since she was 2. She's healthy & happy now. I also have 1 shelter cat & and new kitten that was born to feral parents, she's the wild one... I love to read all the wonderful stories about everyones fur babies.

I cant leave out a picture of my 2 Kittie Kats, They are just starting to get along, I got the kitten on 8-26......

Christine-Your sweet little Dutchess is adorable! I would have taken her too. I can't believe someone would take a dog to the groomer and then never go back for them but this is not the first time I have heard of someone doing that.

I like the picture of your kitties too! Funny how they sleep on the same bed but nowhere near each other.
