Venting sink

I'm planning a new kitchen, and would very much like to move the sink from its current position on an interior wall to an outside wall by the window, about 10 feet away. If possible, I'd also like to have a prep sink near the cooktop, where no sink is now (though it's just the other side of a bathroom, if that makes any difference. I live in a semi-detached house and know that the plumbing vents now run through a small space between the two units.

Can someone give me an idea of how a sink is usually vented. Does it have to go through the roof (my house is three stories of living space with an attic on top of that, and it would probably be impossible), or can it go through the side of the house? Can it vent behind the ceiling and out the side of the house, like my master bath fan? I tried to read a bit about this, but am hopelessly lost.

Thanks for any help.
