Frivolous purchase???

A random question...I am in love with one of PB's headboards...sort of looks British Colonial with wood & a wicker look. Anyway, I would like to get this for our guest room which is used about every 2 months. Our look in there is sort of sophisticated beach with Montgomery White walls, ivory quilt bedding with PB (super on sale) tailored bedskirt in ivory and light brown, vintage ivory dresser and ivory nightstands and a blue quilt at the end of the bed. For artwork, we have wonderful vintage type paintings of children at the seashore, etc, one from Ballard Designs & one from an antique store, and two med. dark wood framed prints of bird eggs.

ANYWAY, is it frivolous (we can afford it) to get a headboard for a non primary bedroom. My DH, who is very accommodating to my decorating desires, thinks it's unnecessary, but you know how it is...the room would look so much more complete, besides I looove the headboard! Am I being silly to get it? Thanks everyone!

Not silly at all if you can afford to buy it. It sounds like it would be just perfect for your room. I might repeat the wicker somewhere in the room even if it is just a basket.

Do you have a pic of the room and the headboard?

I agree, not silly if you can afford it. We have two guest rooms that are used 2-3 a year...they both have headboards, was never a question in my mind.
The room sounds wonderful! Good idea about the wicker basket too.

I could post photos, but need to sit down & figure out how...know there recently was a post on how to do this. I do have a woven basket for magazines for guests & a cute straw hat hung on the wall in a grouping with the paintings. You are helping me to decide. I've watched CL for a long time, but nothing has come up that quite does it for what I want in that room.

I don't currently have a guest room *sigh* but one of the things I liked best about having one, was that no matter how disorganized the rest of my house would sometimes be, I would pop in to my guest room to vacuum or dust and it was always pulled together!

Doesn't sound frivolous to me, being a wonderful host and thinking about creating an area that will make your guests (however infrequent they may be) feel comfortable and welcomed is never a frivolous pursuit! Now having more dishes than would be necessary to feed a small third world country, and still drooling when you see new ones...that my friend is frivolous. Or better yet, spending $3 to $5 on a coffee or latte that only lasts a few minutes is the true definition of frivolous!

Post pics when you get the chance!

I would definitely get the headboard. Your room will look so much more pulled together and you'll get so much satisfaction every time you look at it. Besides, life is short, give yourself all the pleasure you can that is within your reach and that hurts no one. There's nothing frivolous about that.

It sound lovely and, since you say you can afford it, I think it would only add to the beauty of your guest room. I'm sure you're guests will enjoy the headboard, as well. I'm anxious to see some pics of your room.

Personally, I think beds look so much better with headboards, so no, it doesn't sound frivolous at all. Without a headboard, they can look a little naked to me.

Absolutely not!! And when you're all finished, maybe you could surprise your DH with an overnight "vacation" trip to sleep in your own guest room!

I intend to fully furnish the guest rooms in our new house . . . It may take me a while, but eventually they'll have matching linens etc., and will feel very welcoming!

    Go for it!!

Yes, much about decorating is unnecessary and frivolous, as are much of the things we enjoy in life. He doesn't understand this this is a hobby for you.

Tell him it will prevent guests from leaning their greasy heads against the wall when then sit in bed.
