bathroom help needed

Posting on decorating forum even though its a bathroom, its more a question of color and inspiration to get my butt moving. The bathroom has grey floor tiles, toilet and sink which is in a gray formica top. The walls used to be deep mauve spongepainted with white, and a pretty floral shower curtain. (hard to believe, I did this in 1994 or so). Time for a change, so I painted the vanity white, (though true to my secondguessing nature, I wonderif I should have painted it deep brownblack)... and have primed the walls and wonder what color to paint.

I am planning to get a new vanity top from the stock stuff that HD /lowes carry, either a white, or maybe the white-gray marble type, or a white gray speckly granite...new lights, new faucets, on the cheap and uncomplicated.

Originally I though I would go witha pale blue wall and make it all very serene. I got such a pale blue that it is hardly noticeable and I have ceased my efforts at this point. I thought about a paled blue green wall and then either white shower curtain or turquoise-ish curtain?

as you can tell I need help.

Lots of help. Colors that look good with the white, dont seemt o look so great with the gray.

Here are photos for your viewing pleasure, please help me get moving again?

This is for a guest room bathroom so it doesnt get much use. Before (hello 1990's)

Presently- awaiting your input:) hope you can see the floor tile and fixture color.

Have you thought about using a gray-toned glaze over your newly painted white cabs to tone them down? That could very well make it easier to find the right colors to decorate then.

I am really unfamiliar with glazing, although I do see your point there. In real life, the white is not so shocking white (if it matters, it is SW Greek Villa which is a creamy white). I almost feel that if the white does not work, I might as well just repaint the cabinet a dark color? Is glazing a lot of work? ( Idon't mind painting but I am not too good with precision:)..
    any other suggestions?

Your bath looks green on my monitor...always interesting to figure out what the real color is.

If it were my bath I would be tempted to tile the current top with the "pebble tiles" that look like rock. Then go for some bright colors for accessories from colors in the rock. Create a natural feel with seashell pics or rocky stream. Seashells and rocks would also give you colors to consider for walls and counter to go with the gray even if you didn't tile. And painting the cupboards a darker gray, but not black.

Thanks for the suggestions, but I guess I should have mentioned that my taste is pretty traditional.
Also for what its worth, the tiles are pretty close in color to SW cloud gray (or gray cloud) so it is a real gray. The color gray is pretty true to the pic with the mauve wall.
I keep thinking gray, white, nice faucet and lighting, and some other color should work. but its just no happening.:(

Sheila, I didn't see SW cloud gray (or gray cloud either) in my fan deck....

Guess I left off the s on gray cloudS and the number, per SW website is 7658.
    And, thank you for looking!

I think you need a little darker color with the light cabinets and the new counter you're going to buy. What about an Amethyst color? OR...would it be too hard to repaint the cabinets the dark brown/black you mentioned? I could really see a Silver Sage wall in there with the dark cabinets.

What about painting walls a chocolate brown and also put so ORB hardware on cabinets.

Found it! Just figured out that my index is missing that sheet and has a duplicate of one previous.

I hope you don't mind, but I played around with some paint colors with gray. This last week I injured my back pretty badly. I can't currently walk so I have been spending alot of time sitting behind the computer.

The pale blue you tried was probably too light like Lindy said. I tried an amethyst color as she suggested also.

This is just to show gray working with a wall color and I also gave you a new shower curtain in each, just for fun!

    You hope I don't mind???????
Bless you and thank you and I hope you recover quickly (thoughI am grateful that you had the time to spend!!).
I am not so receptive to the amethyst only because it is in teh same family as the previous color I just got rid of.
I am really really liking that blue.Particularly with the white and grey. What color is that? I have so many color swatches at home I just might have it. (my house has tons of blue)-
And the deep grey is very nice as well, but I think it just might be too dark for me.
Do you think that blue works?

looking at the samples again, the amethyst is really quite nice- but I think it would be better with the darker cabinet.
The blue is still looking good to me but would be grateful for more eyes looking at this.
If you feel like playing more, a combo that I like for clothing is gray and camel but I dont really see it in home decor. I guess maybe it is too contemporary for my tastes? I did also see someone on here use SW crystal clear ( very pretty pale mint) but that was with white - so maybe with gray it just won't cut it?
This is a guest bath, inside of a guest room which has nice warm beige carpet. The walls are in fact the original builder off white from 18 years ago so needless to say the room will also be re-done but simply (and cheaply) so I could bring in whatever other color I find for the bathroom or vice vers.
    Thank you for the help.

I love the combo of gray with camel or dark brown. Crate and Barrel have that combo in these pics.

then look at view a room.

Also, I have beige, gray, and chocolate brown in my powder room. I am accessorizing with chocolate brown.

Paddy now that is very attractive there. I just wonder though since my flooring is gray if it will be too drab? I love the contrast of the gray and white in yours. Chocolate brown does sound good but again I am afraid of too dark.
And Lindy I just saw the pic you posted for the gray bedroom and that looks so serene....
I just don't know now.indecision rules for now..

    I really like the amethyst(spell??).
What a pretty color as shown above.

What would it look like to pull in chocolate accents with the amethyst and lots of silver/chrome accessories? Chocolate vanity??

    Smiles:)

Sheila- Thank you for the kind thoughts. I thought it would be a couple days before I would be on my feet again, but GEE I am worried it will be a couple weeks. I feel so OLD (and I am still firmly in my twenties!)

Johnatemp- I really like the amethyst as well. I tried it with a brown vanity with a new top.

LOL, I tried it with the, what I think of when I think of camels. I wasn't too thrilled about it because it looks so sad and gloomy. ~Working on a better blue for you since that is your favorite so far.

I couldn't use your picture because everything was just too far gone to correct. But I did make some gray hex tile and a gray toilet. The cabinet is your white one, but I added a new sink (just for fun).

I was thinking silver accessories, but came up dry when it came to over the toilet.

You were asking about the color... it is color matched to the curtain in each case. In real life, I think that is the best way rather than painting a wall and then trying to find something that matches. Not to say that every room needs to match, but when it comes to such a small room I think it expands the space if the colors are more monochromatic.

Still do like the blue- though I would probably do a white shower curtain, and definitely see what you all see in the amethyst with a dark vanity.
I really appreciate your help. You have no idea how this helps !
But I still hope you feel better.

Well, paintchips, your work has definitely helped me visualize for sure. I am staunchly in the inertia indecision mode, but I feel some action coming on one way or the other for this room. It has been a work in progress(mostly no activity but kind of ripped apart in transition) for longer than I care to admit so I suspect I will be moved to action very very soon. In the meantime, if anyone gets any brainstorms or thoughts feel free to continue. My feeling won't be hurt and in the event I actually do something here, I will update you all.

I have been agonizing over this room for quite a while. I felt like I needed some sort of aha moment or inspiration. Well, I have been looking to see if I could find a shower curtain that might make it all come alive for me. The other day I saw one at Kohls but of course they only had the sample. I went to another Kohls (I live in retail central except for costco. dont get me started) and they were out as well. I looked online and while they show the shower curtain and accessories, the shower curtain is not available to buy. So this morning I figured I would give it one more try and YES at Kohl's # 3 I found it. I brought it home because that is really the only way I can tell and................................ so far, I think I found a winner!!!
This is a picture from kohls but I dont know if you can clickon it to see the detail. IT is a very happy blue-green-(even a little bitty stripe of yellow and lavendar-gray) and turquoise. I am hanging it up to see, but I think I really am liking it. I now need to decide on wall color. (thinking pale but not so pale blue/green, but need to decide which one. What do you think? yes no
