I don't really see as there's anything you can do. Even if you try to change Pepsi's name, she'll continue to respond every time you call Pepper (assuming she responds to her name, Pepsi, now). Just leave the names as they are, and live with the fact that you'll be getting two dogs for the price of one every time you use either of their names.

It's very kind of you to be adopting your friend's dogs. That must be a great comfort to your friend.

Changing a dogs name is tedious, but not difficult. Simply start by holding the dog and saying the new name as you pet/feed treats.

Will not take long for the dog to respond to the new name. You will need to use another of the names for the old dog.

I'm with Emma. When you call one's name, the others want to see what's going on just in case it involves treats.

We've changed the name of several of our dogs because they came from shelters and no one knew the previous name. They all seemed to figure it out pretty quickly.

My brother's dog answered to both Bruiser and Lardbutt. It's not that hard to change a dog's name.

It is easy to change a name... I've had up to five (English) Bulldogs at one time and they all knew and responded to their individual names.

It only takes a few days to get a dog to respond to a new name, in my experience.

Introducing a new name is not too difficult. Make sure you look at the dog and make eye contact. Call it by the New name and give it a command that it knows (sit, lay down). Then praise the dog using the new name but don't give treats. Lather, rinse, repeat. Positive reinforcement usually works. Give treats after they start responding to new name but don't overdo it.
