Exactly what is wrong with your dog? Dry coat? Shedding his winter coat? Fleas?

He gets hot spots which I understand is a general term for all sorts of skin problems. It only seems to happen in the spring and summer so it probably has to do with seasonal allergy but I don't know and the vets don't know but sure do charge a bundle every time there is a large outbreak!

No problems with fleas or ticks because we have him on the stuff from Walmart -- Frontline equilvalent - don't remember the name off hand.

Since we started the supplement in early summer, his condition never got real bad but he will get sores every now and then. The hydrocortizone cream seems to work well on small areas and we are now snapping our fingers to make him stop scratching. (Works immediately, but we aren't constantly with him!)

We have a creek on our property which could also be the problem. Our dogs are allowed to run free on our acreage so swim daily and absolutely love it. It would be impossible to keep him out of the creek -(well - he would hate being kept out of the water.) BTW, when he has a problem I also sponge him down with a fungicide after he swims.

That probably covers it.

Here we add coconut oil on dog meals and it really helped on Doppler's dry skin, as well as his overall health, less runny poop since then. You might want to check coconut oil and see the benefits.

We use coconut oil in place of most others here - also use peanut oil and olive oil. Never thought of using it on dog food though - do you melt it first?
