Help me get started-please

We just bought this split level townhouse with a wonderful lake view from most rooms. It needs a lot of work which our contractor is going to take care of most of it. Tomorrow I take pics of the entry and living room.

My goal is neutral colors with just a few pop of color. I want more modern, meaning more clean lines. To me, less is more and most of the rooms are small.

I am wanting a light (but not pale) color on the walls. Prefer a more sophiscated color. Need a dining room light fixture, entry over stairs fixture and a ceiling fan. Would be able to see all three together.

Beekeepers living room is an inspiration for me but less. Since the rooms are open to each other even though on split level would like to use the same paint color. I have painted samples of Revere Pewter which I love in my current house but not caring for it in new one. Lots of windows but all on the north side of the house.

What about a creamy yellow.? More cream with a hint of yellow. The floors will be wood. Not interested in golds or tans.

Congrats on your new purchase! Beekeepers house is a great inspiration.

We used Behr Raffia Creme in some of our living areas and I love this color. It's a very pretty cream with a touch of yellow. I haven't found one color yet that it doesn't work beautifully with.

When you lighten up any color it becomes a paler shade by definition. Can you give an example of a color that is light, but not pale?

I would like it to be a neutral.
I was thinking that pale would look washed out. The windows are on the north side of the house and will put solar screen on the windows because it Texas.

You might want to look at the Ellen Kennon line of full spectrum paints. Her "Pumice" color gets consistently rave reviews as a great neutral.

I really appreciate everyone's suggestions. Know that I will have to get sample pots to try them on the different walls. I will be hiring a painter to paint 1700 sq. ft. so must get it right.
Has anyone seen mannequin cream. It doesn't seem so yellow. I'm just wanting to give the house a light and warm feeling. Any suggestions on what color to paint the ceilings? The kitchen cabinet will be painted white, possible BM mayonnaise.

What about a light tan? We have SW Irish Cream in several rooms in our home and I love it. It is a neutral but warm color. It looks great with a soft white trim such as BM White Dove.

dawnp- can you post pictures. Am having problems finding rooms on the net. The one that I found I did like it. What kind of board is good to use to same the small pots of paint?

gingerjars, do you mean boards to paint sample colors on? I painted sample colors directly on the walls to have the colors at eye level & in the light the room has.
