Was it something I said?

There was a thread addressed to me that I posted to yesterday. Now it appears to be gone. Did something happen that caused it to be deleted?

No it was not you. And it was not your fault.

I saw that it left, but do not know why.

They were all craving caramel pecan ice cream and only had honeybuns from the vending machine so they took it out on you.

Inappropriate language, poor forum etiquette, duplicate post are reasons that come to mind.

The webmasters probably weren't sure which post was being questioned by other forum members so they just pulled all your current ones.

Don't take it personally..........I was going to be surprised if the original thread wasn't pulled..........and not because of you!

The new post by me was pulled because someone took offense to what I wrote and reported it.
I meant it as a joke, it was too great of a line to pass up, but you know how the written word is...easily misconstrued.

I didn't report it. I'm not the tattletale type. Except when it comes to animal code violations then I am a tattle taler. I will admit that your language was on the crude side but I let you know that I thought so in my reply. You may not have seen my reply which was actually an apology.

    weed,
I think many here were glad to see your post. I know I was..........and it was worded perfectly!

OK............correction. I just discovered that turtle's original post is still on the forum! The direction it was going I was sure that's the post she was referring to being pulled.
I didn't get to read any of the responses to weed's post, but I would have never dreamed it would get pulled on its own!

Missed the action on the the post addressed to turtle, but still scratching my head on the need to remove so many responses on the original tantrum post.

I'm assuming the word that rhymes with "missed" (with letters blocked out with an asterick) is what some found to be 'crude' language? My apologies, I wasn't the first to use it, and I thought we were making light of what had become a very unfortunate newbie post (mine) here at the pet forum.

I always miss all the action!

I think what it is is that Weed30 tends to be rather antagonistic, especially towards me. I think it dates back to some posts a while back where I didn't agree with her about the raw dieting. I don't hold any hard feelings and if weed might remember did my darnedest to help give you lawn advice in the lawn care forum. So making that comment was not very nice but also it was begging for me or that new forum member who was posting to come and argue. Which I didn't. But I had enough of this discussion so you all have a nice day now.

    I missed it too, plastic!

So turtlepie, has your dogs separation anxiety been improving at all?

Weed is not the antagonistic one. At all.

Quirky, I don't think Weed is that kind of person! I also always miss the "good" stuff, dash it all!

Wow, Gina we posted at almost the same time... I was typing mine when you submitted yours, how funny that we both defended Weed simultaneously!

"Weed is not the antagonistic one. At all."

    Not the antagonistic one?
Oh that's nice. I think I know what that means... It must be ME!

Joepyeweed - thanks for asking. I was going to wait 7 days and post an update. The improvement has been nothing short of astounding. He still follows me around the house all day. He still gets distressed when I appear to be preparing to leave. But there's no more destruction while I'm away. None! It's been 5 days since he started the medication and he hasn't destroyed a single thing. And I've had to go out for a few hours at a time on several occasions during those days.

I'm so glad I came here and asked for advice, as that is what finally spurred me to call the vet for help. My only regret is not seeking help sooner.

Turtlepie, I am SO GLAD to hear this! I am certain that he feels as amazed and happy as you do! YAY!!!

    *scratches head*

    huh?

    who?!?

    when??

I feel like a doddering idiot, though I must say I'm relieved to have missed the big event. Kum By Yah? Can't we all just get along?

It's a forum, and some people disagree. Some will vehemently defend their point of view, because they truly believe in what they feel is 'right.' ....and some people get nasty at the drop of a hat. I don't like when people get downright snippy on the internet, but I don't do the all-out-WAR thing. It's the internet - even if you win, you've made a jerk of yourself.

...anyway, I'm going back to my little corner now....

    Weed - Thank you. :-)

I've changed some of my behaviors that I found out could be making his distress worse, like making a big deal out of leaving. I now pay him less attention for a while before going out. I also no longer make a big show of affection upon my return. I give him a pat and say hello then go about my business for a few minutes to calm him down. These two things seem to help him also.

I felt bad when I realized I was a big part of his problem. So now we're working together to help him feel better. So far so good!

The meds won't kick in (I think he's on clomicalm?) for about 30 days, so the improvement you're seeing is not likely related to that. Continue with the low key exits and entrances and practice those without leaving too. Jingle keys, go through exit routine and then sit down. Try to segregate him from you for at least 4 hours a day while you're home. Once he can be without you for 6 hours, he should be fine for more. Good luck!

    turtle,

Like you, I have to be careful in my entrance and exits or my dog goes over the top in excitement.
For a while, whenever I returned (even from a short 1 hr trip) he would act like I'd been gone for weeks. I started coming in the house, ignoring him, and going straight to the frig for a carrot........his favorite treat. I'd have him do a sit, then he'd get a head rub and 'good boy', then his carrot. He now greets me by running up and sitting.........waiting for me to pet him. The carrot is now optional but he still gets it most of the time! :)

On exits he know when I'm leaving and I just ignore him. As I walk out the door I just say, 'be a good boy.........see you later'........and leave.

I'm so glad to hear the progress you've made!

Cynthia - the vet had told me that, but it seemed too much of a coincidence to ignore the fact that he began to improve within 24 hours of being on them. I guess the changes I made are doing most of the work right now, which is great news for me.

Annz - my pup acted like I'd been gone for a week when I went to pick up the kids from school and returned 10 minutes later! It was so over the top. When I actually was gone for a few hours, he'd go into a frenzy when I got home. The changes I've made are making a big difference. I'll have to try the carrot trick, as my pup loves carrot treats too. Thanks for the tip!
