Introducing 2 cats....

We have a 3 yr old female cat. When we first got her she was one of two kitties, one didn't come back at 6 months (he was really crazy). So now, three years later, we have acquired a stray male that is 5 months old. Last week he got his shots, leukemia test and has been neutered. Of course we had to keep him because he followed my 8 yr old dd everywhere.

For those who are pros at introducing cats, how long would you let this introduction take? I've introduced the little one the older one through it's crate yesterday. Also yesterday, I've let the little one scope out the house. Today he's scoping out the house w/the older one locked up. Then later I let them all out.

I don't want it to be too long to enable other issues. But I don't want it to be too short of a time for them not to be ready. They've both caught themselves on each side of a bathroom door...not closed, but I didn't know they were in there and scared off whatever could have transpired. The little one isn't aggressive and my older cat is a little cranky, but isn't real aggressive either. She'll do a little hissy fit, then go off somewhere else. Neither do the stare down and not move behavior.

Any pros out there that can give me pointers? It's been a while for me since I've had to do this.
