Hardware rules... need help

OK, so I have dark-glazed chocolate cherry cabinets (raised panel, traditional) being installed and plan to have oil-rubbed bronze pendant lights over island (3 of them) and oil rubbed bronze chandelier in breakfast area which is part of the kitchen. The appliances are stainless steel. Is it OK to use antique pewter hardware (knobs and pulls... looking at Top Knobs) instead of dark bronze to mix it up a bit and add a little light? There's a lot of wood in here and I think I want to brighten it a bit, but don't want it to look disjointed. The antique pewter has a bit of sheen, but not as much as a satin nickel, for example. Countertops will be light-colored granite with some movement(definitely need light). I have a 1980's tudor style with a lot of dark wood and iron finishes, so don't want to bring in something that doesn't bring things together. Opinions?

Thanks,everyone...

sounds a little like my color scheme! I've got java stained walnut cabs, SS appliances (some integrated), SS sink and faucet, black iron lighting, and knobs/hinges/handles that are antique pewter from TobKnobs!!! I think it's coming together great, but I was nervous about mixing all the finishes.

okay, now this is a big tease for you...because I don't have a good picture of all this!!! I promise I'll get one tomorrow when I visit the house and post then!!!

Please post your pictures, Mairin! I wanted to wait until countertops, etc. are installed before choosing hardware, but by then my installer will be gone and I don't think he'll want to come back just for that... I really don't want to pay anyone else to do the hardware, since it was included in the bid. I really like the pewter finish on the Top Knobs but one of the styles I like only has the drop handle, so I might have to choose something else in that line. The other company I looked at(RK) has a more blackened nickel finish which looks kind of dull. Who would have guessed that hardware would be this difficult?

I'm mixing finishes too and I'm also nervous. ;-) I'm doing the opposite, though, stainless pendant lights and bronze cabinet hardware.

I think (hope) it's ok to mix - your lighting matches each other, and your hardware coordinates with your appliances. My lighting matches the appliances, and my hardware matches the glaze in the cabinets. I think that makes it work.

If it doesn't someone let me know before I order this hardware! ;-)

here's some pictures as promised. Please excuse and look past all of the dust and dirt - this place is still a construction zone!!!

an overview shot from one corner - can't see the hardware very well upclose, but you can see how it blends well with the SS oven, sink/faucet, and Iron lights

still missing some pulls for the drawers (don't ask, I'm a dummy!)

    Hope this helps!!

When/if this project is ever finished we will have antique bronze lighting fixtures and brushed nickel cabinet hardware. Our perimeter cabinets are white and the island a very dark espresso. Originally I ordered bronze hardware for all the cabinets but changed it all to the brushed nickel after seeing it with the cabinets. I think you are right to be worried about the ORB with your dark cabinets since the dark hardware will blend in with it so much. Mairin's kitchen is beautiful and I like the way the hardware glows against the dark cabinets and am so hoping that ours will look like that. Sorry I can't send any pictures because nothing is done yet.

Thanks so much, Mairin, for posting pictures... Your house is coming along beautifully. I love what you've done with the hardware and I think I'll also choose antique pewter. Are the knobs and pulls both from Top Knobs? Is the knob the one you pictured close up in your previous posts? I couldn't quite tell, but it sure does look great. I was considering the Top Knobs Tuscany pull, but I think I like yours better.
By the way, I saw you made reference to Chicago in your previous posts... we lived in the western suburbs for many years and I really miss that area and our old house. I wish you well in your new home.

Dinajo-Please mix your finishes as you plan. It will make me feel better about my mixing of fnishes! So hard to make decisions on everything...

Just today I went to buy three antique glass door knobs and ended up coming home with a bunch of antique bin pulls and finger pulls for my hutch. Not planned! Now, how to match those...

I promise, Krissd, I am mixing pewter hardware with oil rubbed bronze lighting... I'm with you.
Mairin, I lived in Oak Park and River Forest and had a friend in LaGrange. We do get to the area occasionally to see in-laws and it's not too bad a trip from Madison (WI).
Well, I have to order this hardware TODAY! The Top Knobs is solid brass so I hope it's worth the extra $... The quality seems excellent and I see it alot on this forum. It feels good to make one more decision... only about 100 more to go (ugh).
