Does anyone have exp w/ Palliser furniture, theaterseatstore.com?

Hi all,

I am interested in a sectional from the furniture company Palliser. It is the Venus model. We are looking to get it done in their faux leather called "Phoenix". It feels like the soft, yet thick, real leather (Nubuk). The salesman today said it was very kid friendly and that it would wear just as well as real leather. We have seen so many cheap versions of "bonded leather" that felt shoddy, so we are just a little cautious at this point.

When we got home, I looked up the Palliser website and saw a different model than we had seen in the store. Then we found an online company, theaterseatstore.com and found it for a very reasonable price.

If anyone has any experience with Palliser, esp their Phoenix line of faux leather, or theaterseatstore.com, we'd really appreciate it.

I had a very good experience with Carolina Furniture Group when I purchased my theater seating. They also carry Palliser so I would check with them.

If you're not set on a particular model see if they have any close-outs or custom orders that were cancelled. I purchased 5 Bercline seats in 100% leather for 2k a few years ago...3k savings over my local dealer!

    Dianlo,

We ordered a Palliser sectional this past year and love it. Had a small factory defect on the first one which the local store tried to repair, but ended up doing a warranty return and we got an entire new couch. I had considered buying online, but with the return was glad to have a bricks and mortar store to deal with.

We got all leather, model Cypress, color Tulsa Bean (2000 grade leather). As a modular unit we were able to get a smaller size sectional that fits our space perfectly. It's comfy and has held up well.

They offer a leather match option, leather where you sit and the back/sides color matched faux or fabric/microfiber options. There is a price/finish difference in leather grades and we did order samples online and took more home from the store, doing scratch tests as well as choosing colors. The construction seems good and solid.

I have a recliner chair and recliner (2) sofa from Palliser. Its now about 8 years old. It is all leather, even the sides and back. The sofa has worn well - no tell tale worn areas (that's basically where I sit). However, the recliner has areas where the leather has "peeled". It kinda looks like what your skin does when you get a sunburn if you know what I mean. The area is on the part of the recliner where my husband puts his elbows and on the part where the back of his thighs just above the knees would rub the recliner. I should have called the place I bought it from when it first started happening but I didn't. I don't know if they would have done anything about it or not. The warranty was 5 years on materials and this probably started happening just before that. It's not bad but you can tell the difference from the condition of the sofa and the recliner. Hubby does "really use" his recliner, throws his legs over the arms of it and sits on the floor in front of it and leans back on the same area that his thighs would rub on it. Not sure if the leather was faulty on that piece or if its the "normal wear and tear". I wouldn't consider it abused by any means such as kids being on it would cause problems. The structure of the pieces are solid, heavy and the mechanisms work great. We were told that you should use the recliner lever to lower and raise the footrest and not to just push on the footrest,so we make sure we use it correctly.

Quality wise, structure wise, I think its a good company. I am at fault for not following through with the wear problem. I might have been able to have it repaired or replaced when it first started happening. Now I know its too late to do anything about it.

    Hi all,
Thanks for your feedback ;). I am hoping that this furniture line is a quality one because it is more than other brands we saw. We are willing to pay more if it holds up well.

Mboston - was the recliner from the same line as your couch? Is it perhaps more in the sun or near a heat source? It is odd that it held up differently than the couch by so much.
The material we would get is a leather-look, called Phoenix. It is a new "fabric" and really feels and looks like Nubuk leather. I don't care if it is faux as long as it wears for a good long time before showing its age, as we'd expect from real leather. We don't trust our sons with any regular fabric seating, other than the dining room. I know there is no bullet-proof material out there, but I'd like one that is as family friendly as possible. I also am not a fan of Scotch guard type finishes as I worry that they are not good environmentally and/or worry about possible side effects from it (one son has asthma).

What I seem to hear from the posts above is that Palliser stuff is well constructed. Now, I just need to figure out if the Phoenix is a good finish for it.
