Pool builder in Mass.

This is a fabulous forum! We are planning a pool in the Boston area and are expecting to get quotes from Envinronmental and Pools by Andrews. If anyone can provide feedback on those two or suggestions for other builders, I sure would appreciate it.

We went with EPI last fall and will (should) be finished this spring. My overall experience with them has been decent. They do provide a great design - at least for us and that's what sold it. I think price wise, they were the easiest to work with (read: negotiable). Good luck and keep us updated with your progress.

We used Ferrari Pools to build our pool 8 years ago. We were very pleased with them for the build and follow-up service. Our next door neighbor used Environmental and were happy but their build took considerably longer for a very similar pool. We interviewed Andrews and felt they were not as "custom" as the others. Good luck with your project. We're building a pool again, now that we've moved to NC...a fun and agonizing process!

Good to hear the there might be some wiggle room on pricing. I'm hoping that in this R.E. market they will be pretty hungry for deals. ron168, any details you'd be comfortable sharing about pool dimensions, options and pricing would be a big help. Ferrari was on our list too, so it is nice to hear that they've been around for a while.

I live in Southern NH and started our pool build this past Sept. and will finish this spring. We got quotes from Environmental Pools, Custom Pools out of Portsmouth, South Shore Gunite Pools, and Quality Design out of Nashua, NH. Environmental pools, by far was the most expensive. We ended up going with Quality Design because they offered the most and focused on the quality of their product, not on putting down the competitor.

We have had an excellent experience with Quality Design. They have worked efficiently, been respectful of our yard, and have gone above and beyond what they had stated they would do on the contract. We actually had to ask them to slow down construction because we didn't want to finish the pool until this spring. You can see the pictures of our pool-in-progress if you look for posts under NH pools search. Good Luck!

Hi, we also went with Environmental pools, they started this fall and will finish in the spring. We obtained quotes from Andrews, Ferrari, Aquatime, and Aquascape (new company after he lost his "Ferrari pools" company...unclear details on what transpired). Basically Aquascape gives you the impression he is going to sit out there with a lawnchair directing your pool build....his bid was outrageous...the most expensive. Everyone else was reasonable, although EPI was a bit more. They were the easiest to negotiate with and I thought I had a pretty good price. So far the build has been fine. We ran into unexpected terrain problems and had to modify the pool a bit, but still good. The only warning I have is to watch them carefully when they are working....they tend to nickle and dime you for extra's. I had negotiated for one truck of subase material included. I later received a bill for two more...my wife was home most of the day and swears they only brought one truck....looking around the yard, I really can't see how this is 3 trucks worth of stone...but i have not proof. Just watch them carefully, also watch their electrician...now here's a piece of work. The contract included 75 feet of electric to the panel. He shows up with a bill stating he used 110 feet. Then he bills us for 110-75=40??? go figure he cant even substract, my wife didnt pick up on it. I measured the pipe for the wiring that night....barely 90 feet...I called him several times...no response. EPI said they would look into it, still no word....I am waiting till spring when he comes back out to finish the electrical and ask him about his math skills. Anyway, the build is going well and we are pleased, after checking with several references I dont think you can go wrong with EPI, Andrews, or Aquatime....basically to quote a friend of mine...your dealing with gypsies.....be an informed consumer. Good luck

We built a pool and spa last summer. We got bids from several companies including Andrews, Quality in NH, Environmental, Ferrari and South Shore Gunite. We ultimately went with South Shore Gunite because we liked the design and pricing was comparable to Environmental. We really had a hard time choosing between the two. No build is perfect and there were some issues, but overall we are very happy with South Shore. They are worth considering. Someone else in town went with Environmental and I know they are happy, as well. Good luck!

Thanks for the info everyone. We got our first two quotes back and it is clear that we've got a lot of work to do. Andrews came in around 60k w/o a spa or fencing. A vinyl quote was under 20k but included almost nothing (no decking, no electrical, etc.). My wife just mentioned South Shore last night, so we'll add them to the quote list. I really hope we can find a hungry builder who wants/needs to be agressive.

So Ron, what was your final decision? We are making a similar decision among Andrews, SSG and EP. Would love to know how your pool ended up.
