Help needed on sizing of Pulls and Knobs?

I don't have a clue what size pulls to order. I won't be able to hold them up to my cabinets because I live in the sticks so have to order everything online. I know the look I want (ORB) but am so lost. Can you please give me some lessons/advice on sizes? I like the longer pulls but have no clue what is appropriate. My drawers stacks will be 18", 24" 30" and 36". I will also have one small 15" pantry pull out so will want a pull on that too.

Thanks!

i just bought mine today and went with 8" for the larger cabinets, both top and bottom as well as the pantry. For the smaller cabinets above the microwave, refrigerator and smaller drawers on the 15" cabinets I went with 5" pull. I like the mix of them they look nice mixed.

It comes down to personal preference. What I did for lights was draw it out on posterboard and had my DH hold it up in order for me to figure out scale. I went with different sizes than I thought I would. With pulls you can have 1 or 2 pulls per drawer. Personally I preferred 1 and restoration hardware has the same style pulls in multiple sizes (3", 4", 6", 8", 10" and I think 12"). I went with 4" on my 18" drawers and 6" on 24 - 30" drawers. If you go with 2 there are many online companies with great prices. The regular size pulls seem to be 3 - 4".

I agree with bostonpam about restoration hardware if you are using longer than the standard 3-4" pulls because they have so many sizes and while not cheap, they are great quality and the price for the larger pulls is not bad (in my opinion). Their ORB is on the black side. I am using their ephram pulls, haven't decided on the sizes yet.

I ordered a 'Dakota' pull from top knobs because it is very similar to the ephram pull and a little cheaper, and it is very good quality, too. It is much browner than the RH ORB, and I prefer the RH. By the way, the top knob version is almost exactly in size and shape. And top knobs does not have a 6" version.

Some people say that if you use two pulls on the wider drawers, you usually only use one hand to open the drawer, and can torque it a little because the pull is off-center. Others say that isn't true as long as you have good drawer slides.

Here is a link that I had bookmarked that discusses pulls length for 36" pulls. It's one of the missing files, so I had to give you the google cache version, so it looks a little weird.

I live in the sticks too so I ordered the 3 styles I think I might like from RH in the 6", so I can hopefully tell if I want to go bigger or smaller. The woman at RH promised that I can return them when I place my full order for all the pulls -- no time limit. I hope she didn't mislead me b/c they are darn expensive, but I like what I hear about the quality of the RH pulls on this forum.

Thanks for your input on this everyone! Ughh. Sooooo many decisions to make. All of this is new to me as I'm sure it is most of you as well. It's overwhelming and a huge learning curve. I'm getting ready to order all this "stuff" and am really second guessing everything. I don't have a nack for envisioning things so am hoping and praying that my new kitchen won't end up looking like a hot mess! I'm off to take a look at restorationhardware.com. Thank you again!!

I just ordered my Top Knobs Princetonian bar pulls from myknobs.com.
They have a sample policy...you can order three separate pulls/knobs as long as each is under $15. And, as long as you make your subsequent order with them, they will credit back the cost of the sample purchase, less the shipping. (You cannot return the samples.) So, I ordered an 18" -- the biggest I could get under $15 -- and a couple of other sizes/styles from different manufacturers to decide which I wanted. Made the process much easier.

I have 96mm pulls on my 18" and 15" drawers, 128mm pulls on my 27" drawers. My cabinet style is shaker, so the width of the inset area of the drawers is about 6" less than the drawer itself (3" on each side).
