Because of the corner and the mirror, you have some size restraints. A chunky lamp would look crowded. I think a tall candlestick with not too big of a shade might fit this space nicely. Try to find a bronze/antique gold color...not brass...because the mirror has that brassy tone, which btw is a beautiful mirror. Flip the standing book to the opposite corner and place the lamp in that corner. I would say the lamp with the shade needs to stand to the about 2-3 inches below the bottom of the second set of scrolls.

First of all, I think it is so great what you are doing for your mom.
Here is a lamp which I think might work, just not sure if it is too blendy with what you have. I do like that it is tall and narrow.

Here's another vote for a tall candlestick lamp. You can find these just about anywhere lamps are sold. If you want a bargain, try TJMaxx or something similar. I'm sure you will find something very nice for that spot at a reasonable price.

Another place for great-looking, inexpensive lamps is Kirklands in the mall.

Sheil, you must be a mind reader...just the lamp I had in mind. Where did you find that? Do you know the height? I see people post pictures they see, from I think online, how do you post those items. I know how to post a photograph from photobucket.

No suggestions for a lamp but want to commend you for taking care of your mom. She raised a caring and loving daughter wanting to make that space nice for her! (Also love the chest.)
