Help needed with replacing cooktop.

Hello everyone. I've lurked here for quite a while and did actually post a similar question with pictures (which I cannot find now) a few months ago. Indecision has kept me from beginning the little facelift on my kitchen.

My problem is this: I have an island cooktop that is the dreaded Jenair downdraft. It truly is a piece of junk. I need to replace it and the build in micro/oven wall unit. I would really like to change over to gas. Have my heart set on it actually. My original idea was to remove the cabinet that houses the micro/oven unit and place a freestand or slide in range in that area. The problem with this is that the dishwasher is right next to it. I think this could be remedied with a panel ready dishwasher (great idea from someone in the prior thread). The biggest problem to my mind is the venting issue. With the vaulted ceiling and the ledge behind the cabinets, don't know how to accomplish this and have it be nice looking.

I'd almost decided to just go with a gas downdraft and new micro/oven unit and call it a day, however I'm afraid that wouldn't be safe with the small island that I have. On the previous thread someone had suggested a telescoping downdraft vent which was a terrific idea but my island isn't large enough for it.

We will be installing new countertops, probably granite and a tile backsplash but I need to decide on my floor plan before I can pick out appliances and countertop materials.

I know there are a lot of really talented people on here and I'm hoping that someone has a fantastic idea so I can have my gas range/cooktop. I do have a budget (small) so replacing the island or cabinetry is out of the question. Thanks so much.
