OT - Prayers Needed

Hi All - you are such a wonderful group of people that I know you will also be a powerful positive force for my friends. I just found out that my good friends' daughter died yesterday after battling nearly 9 long months after a tragic swimming pool accident that made national headlines (you may have read about it, if not see link below). The father and I worked together in the legal industry for many years and he was an immense source of strength and support for me when my son was fighting for his life. Please, no matter what your faith or inner strength, consider saying a special prayer for this amazing family. Thanks - Kristin

I am so sorry to hear this! Prayers for you and her family!

    How heartbreaking.

It sounds like poor Abigail had a pretty hard year, her parents definitely need support- how sad.

They will be included in my prayers.

Our prayers go out for Abigail's family and friends, and to get this Act signed into law ASAP...definitely before this summer's pool season (preferably w/o any grandfathering)!

BTW...I cannot access the article now...I just read the article and went back to verify the Act had been passed by both houses but not yet signed, but cannot get to it now.

This one should be better (I think the local Mpls paper was changing the location of the story on their website)

UGH my g*d...I hadn't heard about that before and I'm in shock. Our family's thoughts are with Abigail's family...just incredible what dangers lie waiting in our technologies...

Sending you and Abigail's family some positive, healing energy.

Shocking and so sad. What that poor child went through and her parents - I hope it is signed into law and enacted without out any grandfather clause allowing older pools to remain with such dangerous suction devises. No one should have to suffer like this. Sending healing thoughts to the family and friends.

I remember hearing this about this story when it happened. How heart wrenching for the parents and family and incredibly painful and sad for little Abigail. It just makes you realize that at any time, you never know what could happen. Unfortunately, it sometimes takes these stories to remind us how precious our lives and those of our loved ones are. I will keep Abigails' family in my thoughts.

I'm so sorry. After reading what that little girl had to go through, I'm sick. I was aware of the drain issue when my teenagers were little. Because I warned my kids about the danger of drains from the moment we started swimming, my one son even refused to swim above one. I thought that because of other incidents like this one in years past, that the drains had to be changed in public pools. I wasn't aware of the grandfathering. This was a senseless death that could have been prevented.

Our thoughts go out to the family. Is there anywhere we can right in support of this law?

I was never aware anything like that was possible, how absolutely horrifying. At the very least warning signs should be present at every pool..big ones. Parents need to be made aware of this.

Such a sad story. My prayers will be with this family. Paddytc

Count me in on the prayers for the family. I have been following this story here in MN and it is so heartbreaking. I was so hoping she would come through this. She was such a beautiful little girl with a great smile.

I can't even imagine being one of those family members.

I too have been following Abigail's story. Like KitchenKelly, I was hopeful especially after reading an update in the paper a few months ago. I was so sad this morning when I read of Abigail's death. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with Abigail's family and friends.

kitchenkelly - I figured you'd know about it - Scott and I worked together for many years (I was a securities attorney, he was in financial printing and covered my law firm - we did loads of deals together) - he and Katey are amazing parents and so totally love their girls - they are a fun, close-knit family and very giving to others. Scott and I had an incredible conversation about a month after the accident and he was such a pillar of strength (I did most of the crying) - they are very committed to seeing change and bringing a purpose to what they're going through. Thanks for keeping them in your prayers.

how very sad, I will say a prayer for the family.

Wishing all possible healing and positive memories for the family and you too! It is such a tragic end for a beautiful little girl. Everyone had so hoped she would pull through. Prayers for all!

Our prayers go out to the family for the horrible loss...

My heart aches for this family and what they and their daughter have endured. I'll keep them in my prayers.

I just read about this story today and was completely heartbroken. I will continue to pray for their family that they find the strength to get through this. I'm in NJ, not local to you, I read about it on the internet.
Another painful reminder of how ordinary things in our lives can be deadly to children. So sad and tragic.

I will have the family in my prayers as well. Abigail does not need them...she's surely an angel above us now!! What a beautiful child. And what a sad loss.

A friend of ours lost their teenager daughter to a hot tub drain (it pulled her hair in and pulled her head under water..they couldn't save her in time). I knew of that danger, but didn't know about the drains on public pools. What an eye opener.

We were so saddened to see this on CNN this morning. My office discussed this at length when it happened in June and had assumed she had recovered and gone home. What a sad, sad shock today.

Prayers for her family and for you as well . . .

had jsut read of poor Abigail's story on the web earlier this evening(it was the first time I had seen anything about this and i was horrified by it; can't even begin to understand what her family has gone thru, as well as her)

prayers to all of her family and all that knew her

such a sad story for such wrong reasons; hopefully the legislation will pass and this will never ever be a threat to our kids

This is so sad. What makes it so particularly sad is that these things keep happening. Why haven't pools been retrofitted? My home pool has an attached hot tub. It has 2 drains so that this can't happen. It also has a "quick drain" feature, so if by some possible stretch of the imagination it did, you can drain the entire hot tub in a minute or two. My pool was built in the late 1980s! Why are kids still being killed and disemboweled. It's just awful.

My prayers are with this family in this time of tragedy. This is such sad, sad news. My heart goes out to them and I pray they are someday able to find some peace.

Prayers for healing, peace, some sort of sense of this life for the family & friends left behind mourning such a beautiful girl and a senseless death - all else seems so trivial right now - God Bless them and theirs

What a tragic loss. Kristen, your friends are in my prayers tonight.

How awful and tragic! My heart goes out to them....

A friend's 12-year-old(!) son was trapped by a drain in a pool in a beautiful resort in Mexico. He was saved because several people got in and pulled him away; his mother was not able to do so by herself. When traveling anywhere with children, always check the drains in the pools! I'm so very sorry for the family in the article.

Such a horrible and tragic accident that should never have happened.
My prayers go out to Abigail's family at this very difficult time.

I am so sorry for the loss. I pray that the family and loved ones can find comfort in her memory and that she may rest in peace.
    Again, so sorry.

It brings tears to my eyes to think of this poor child's suffering. I have already said a prayer.

My prayers for all of you...

mnhockeymom, I am very sorry to hear about the terrible ordeal Abigail went through and am glad she is at peace. I am praying for her family and friends.

OMG, what a tragic accident. Heartfelt prayers to the family and all who have been affected. I will keep them in my thoughts as well. I also plan on warning my kids of the dangers of pool drains.

I have followed this story and am so sad to hear of Abigail's death. I had hoped for medical miracles for her. Prayers for Abigal and her family and friends.

Oh Kristin -- what a sad story. I am so sorry for your and your friends' loss -- what a stupid and trite-sounding thing to write, but my heart aches for everyone who loses a child.

Thank you for alerting us to this scary situation: we can just never be too careful.

    Please take care.

I will hold this dear family up in prayer.

I noticed in the news-story photo of Abigail that there's a child-proof lock on the cabinet behind her. Her loving parents obviously took great care to keep their precious children safe. So very sad that Abigail suffered and lost her life to a tragic but wholly preventable incident.

What a little angel and truly now more so than ever. I have heard of several occasions of kids drowning b/c of drains and it seems as if I vaguely remember this story from the internet last summer. Hopefully her precious little life will save others from this horrific tragedy. She and her family are in my prayers.

How sad and scary. We are not religious people but I will definitely be thinking of this family. Thank you for sharing the story.

Thank you for this post. It's making me reflect about what is, and isn't, really important in my own life. Abigail's story was familiar to me but, like others, I thought she may have recovered. You sounded an alert today for many of us regarding pool safety.

Of course, my good thoughts and prayers are going to you and Abigail's family.
