I am going to answer my own post since I have the answer.
ONly doing this for future pool shoppers.

I contacted Pebble tech asking the benefits of sheen versus fina. THere is a longer warranty to the sheen and the sheen is easier to maintain. The fina is a small step up from plaster . I am going to eat salads for the next two months to pay the increase cost.

Terriolsen, Now after 4 years, how is your pebble fina looking? Did it mottle or marble? Can you post a picture? We are torn between plaster and pebble fina. We did not like the feel of the stones.

You really can't tell until you look closely, and the water is very still... but here it is today. Pic 1:

Here is my pebble fina after 1 year. It looks terrible. I would not recommend at all. The company has not been helpful at all. I would not recommend ANY of their products!

We went with Pebble Fina, same exact result after just a few months. i was told problem was calcium hardness issue. We drained, acid washed, filled and within two weeks came back. Contractors agreed to redo with pebble sheen and lighter color.

I'm having very similar issue. Pool less than 4 years old. Been getting progressively worse with each season pool opening. Some mottling discoloration but I also have calcium silicate deposits. The ewalls and parts of floor feel like razor sharp sandpaper. I keep my PH/ chemicals perfectly throughout my northeast season. Problem seems to arise over winter when I cannot monitor chemistry while pool closed for season. At request of pool builder they suggested lowering PH to 6 and allow portable pumps to circulate the water for a few days, while scrubbing with wire brush every day. Didn't help.. Nothing works. Kids feet get bloody on sharp silicate crystals.

If acid wash doesn't even help, has anyone found true solution? Did refinishing with Pebblesheen help or is it too early to really know?

We are also in the NE and have professional pool service weekly. Our pool builder referred our complaints to the Pebble Fina installer (David Cooke Plaster). (We had problems the first season with the finish.) That was a dead end and David Cooke was not interested in helping. I called the PebbleTec corporate office who referred me back to David Cooke. I would never put this finish on my pool again. The only thing we found to work was having our pool service company drain and acid wash the pool. We are coming up on 3 year since installation. I’m guessing we will have to replace the entire pool surface in less than half the time we were told from the manufacturer. It’s been a very frustrating and costly mistake putting this finish on our pool. They have not stood behind their work and just stopped returning our calls. Hopefully a full drain and acid wash will help. Best of luck to you!

This is pebble fina, dark gray after 1 year. Contractor replaced with pebble sheen at no cost. Happy with pebble sheen although would have preffered fina. I definitely would not do dark colors in any finish, will always show chaulky/mottling with no long term remedy. Good Luck!
