I JUST fixed this a few days ago...my understanding is the water can only hold so much in dissolved solids, so when the salt takes over, the calcium comes out. I went to Texsun pools, bought a 4 pack of scale reducer, and added 2 bottles. Will add more as a maintenance in the next few weeks. Also, make sure ph is down to normal (new pool + salt = high ph) and the high ph quickens the calcium "dandruff".

Backwash filter, adjust ph, add the scale remover, then run for about a day, and brush the white stuff around a few times. Should go away in about 2 days.

This is pretty common with pools with salt chlorine generators. If you have a high calcium level in the pool, it will attach to the blades in the salt chlorinator system. Over time, it will shed the calcium as flakes when the chlorinator does its reverse polarity cycle (trying to clean the blades). When you start to see this, it is time to do an acid wash since the calcium has probably built up enough to require an acid wash at this point. Some chlorinators allow you to reduce the time between reverse polarity cycles to help fight off excess build up on the blades. You can also try lowering your pH to 7.2 to 7.3 to see if that helps. Some areas of the country are much more prone to this than others. Arizona is probably the worst. I also hear about this in Northern CA too. It depends on the water source that filled the pool. Well water is notorious for causing this too.

Most likely calcium carbonate. In most cases a high ph is the cause. Lower the ph and clean the cell. If you have a pressure cleaner, clean the inline finger screen also. Good luck.

It may also bo coming from the heat exchanger due to poor chemistry and/or a heater problem.

We no longer have the white flakes. A ph change did the trick.
