I have a correctdeck composite deck, mahogoney color. It has really faded since I installed it 2 summers ago. I cleaned it recently, and now it's even more faded. Is there a recommeded product to restore it's original color. I have heard people talking about twp (#116?), but not sure if it's for composite. Please help

Tom,I have used twp 116 on Choice composite 5/4 planks with very good results. Choice,Epoch, even the junk Trex will take an outdoor finish because they are really soft with open grain ( if you can call it that) I have never even seen correctdeck so I cant really say how it would take finish, only way to know is try a test area.

One of the weak points of composite is it stains up easely, puting a finish on them makes a weak point a strong point. The final color is a little trickie, just like wood one color will look different placed on different kinds of wood. J

Because CorrectDeck does have exposed wood fibers...it does take stains well. A solid based stain works. BEHR has worked with composite companies and created color matches for the more popular colors.
Keep in mind that the CorrectDeck product is still in tact and the stain is not needed to add any durability to the product...just some asthetic value.

Is Fiberon (specifically their Tropics style) exposed wood fiber composite? Will it take stain?

Correct Building Products offers a full range of stains that match the original color of both CorrectDeck and CorrectDeck CX. It is always best to wait at least 2 summers before applying any type of stain to our product. This gives the surface a chance to weather which provides better adhesion and even uptake of the stain without blotching.

For our standard Mahogany decking, you can order "California Rustic" by the gallon which will give you a semi-transparent finish. If you are looking for a more solid top coat, request "Mahogany CX". The alternative to both of these is to put down a good quality stain (oil or latex) that has good UV resistance. Lower quality products will not hold up well on any composite since most do not absorb to the depth that is common in natural wood products which will cause them to fade very quickly.

Contact our Consumer Relations group for additional assistance in ordering these products at 207-284-5600

    Hope this helps.

so much for the "no maintence composite deck!"

I agree total with the Bargamon, mon,,composites require at least as much maintanence as your bacic ipe deck.

A high grade outdoor finish on the softer composites will help out a little. J
