tSummersAtTheLake Pool Build

After about a year of research and prep work I finally decided on my PB and signed on the dotted line yesterday--about 60 days out to start. Thanks to this forum and everyone on it for helping educate me as this is my first pool. Here are some of the specifics:

29'x19'x25' freeform gunite with 2' high stone bond/retaining wall and 2 sheer descent waterfalls. Pool is 3' to 6' deep and has a swim out and 2 underwater benches. Coping is FonDuLac stone and also PB will cover the top of my existing retaining walls with this stone. Pool finish is Pebble Tec (Tahoe Blue) and decking is Kool Deck with a flagstone color/pattern. Pentair all the way including SWG.

My lot slopes a bunch and I have built the retaining walls myself (19 yards of concrete so far. The Cat Skid Steer is mine and it sure helps a bunch. I will start with a few pictures of my site:

More rain today but we needed it--next week looks dry though.
No infinity edge on the pool but will have a couple of sheer descents and 4 deckjets.
I am torn between paying the extra dollars and upgrading to the laminar jets w/fiber optic in them and the sheer descents or not--don't have a firm bid on it yet but believe that it will cost around 4k to do this.

I thought the same thing about the infinity edge. I would keep the pool as simple and natural as possible. Your lake is so beautiful. The pool should compliment it, not try to overshadow it.

Good luck! We can't wait to see it!

Finally dried out and got the dig finished today--my lot is really steep down to the pool area and a little bit of rain makes it pretty hairy--hopefully no more rain and shotcrete next week:)

Coming along nicely. I love the shape!

Shotcrete was finished yesterday after a couple of delays--on to rest of retaining walls, plumbing, backfill, and coping!!!

The Fondulac stone coping and retaining wall is mostly in place and we poured the lower concrete deck today. My concrete decks get Miracote and probably won't get this and the pebbletec in the pool until spring. Fondulac stone steps from the house deck to the upper pool deck and then to the lower pool deck are next and then the upper pool deck concrete.

You have an amazing set up. We vacation at a small lake (actually called a pond) in Maine every summer, and every summer we look into buying a place there. Looks like you have it all. Congratulations and keep the pictures coming.

Little more progress on the steps, stone walls, and concrete retaining walls. I have poured all of the concrete walls you see and am glad that this job is almost over. I was almost 80 degrees yesterday and this morning is is 65--awesome weather but it can't last. The last photo is The Lodge of the Four Seasons which is right across the lake from me.

Beautiful ! Love the freeforn design and all the stone work ! I plan to have a coping done in stamped similar to your stone.. not the real $$ thing.. but the look I like !

    What a view !

Still looks great, so when do you expect to complete the pool.....you wrote about pebbletec in the spring????? Is it too cold to finish and fill.

    gk5040,
No pebbletec till spring for sure as the pool season is over here. Temps might get into the 60's during the day but the nights are close to freezing right now. I still have a couple of weeks work to finish the decking and stone work and then all winter/spring to finish the landscaping so I will have a FULL pool season next year and am looking forward to it.
Here is a link to some ice storm photos that we had the week after Thanksgiving last year:

Got the rest of the pool deck poured yesterday--steps are getting closer and the wall stone cap is getting started. The concrete walls will get stucco but probably not until spring. It was so nice out today that my wife and I took a boat ride and got a picture from the lake.

Still waiting for spring to finish up--getting closer!!

Well spring is here but March has been one of the wettest on record so I am still backed up in completion of the pool. I am having an epoxy/stone costing installed on my poured concrete retaining walls and it has been too cold/wet to get this done...nyone ever use this product?

We got about 4" of rain today and more is on the way tomorrow..put together a short tour in the link below

    summers-

Ahhh...Lake of the Ozarks....I used to live in Lebanon, MO near Bennet Springs. Seeing pictures of the lake and the snow takes me back to the mid-90's when I was there. Still have fond memories of HaHa Tonka Park and partying in the coves..despite all the bad press that went along with the parties!

I don't miss the snow as we live in Louisiana now...

You are going to enjoy that pool along with the amenities that the lake offers!

Your pool is gorgeous and it was fun to read through the progress - I only saw it for the first time today. Well, now it is April, I hope the rest of the build goes quickly and easily and you are swimming soon. Please keep posting pictures!

(Being from Florida, it was odd to see the leaves changing color/falling as you posted...)

    mango,
The last of the work is a piece of cake and I just need the rain to stop but we got another 2" today. My plans were to have the pool ready to use by the 1st. or 2nd. week in May so we are pretty close to schedule. With the warmer weather the natives are getting restless though and caught this shot of a boat tweaking the engines with a couple of 100+mph runs.

I didn't have my PB include electrical controls/wiring in the bid mainly because I was unsure of what I wanted....Finally decided on Easytouch 8 with 2 actuators and the Easytouch wireless remote and I was going to buy it online ($1,500.00 + shipping was the cheapest I found)...my PB came by today and had the whole thing NIB and offered it to me for $1,000.00 WOO HOO!!! It's sitting in my den right now

I guess all of those ice cold Coronas and burgers paid off.

Great go-fast boat pic. I've watched those race around the Keys and Sarasota - the helicopter contingent that follows them is just as impressive as the boats. I can't imagine going that fast on a lake...

Hope the rain has stopped for you - it's raining here now after a hot morning of digging in the garden and cooling off in the pool.

    Keep posting pics!

My PB set the equiptment in place so the electrician can run conduit and wire the motors before everything gets plumbed...electrician is supposed to start tomorrow but more rain in the forcast for the next 2 days.
After a few changes since my initial plan for the euiptment here is the final:
Pentair EasyTouch 8 with wireless remote
    Pentair IC-40 Salt Water Generator
    Pentair SAM
    Pentair TR60 Sand Filter
    Pentair Master Tem 300 Heater
Pentair WhisperFlo 1hp Motor For Filter
Pentair SuperFlo 1hp Motor For Water Features
Pentair Legend Platinum Cleaner with Century Centurion 3/4 hp Booster Pump
I am using Kichler landscape lights and the picture is one of the lights on the concrete retaining walls (19 total)..I was used to Lowes landscape light prices and not Kichler so this budget was WAY overboard. Concrete walls still need textured (with the exception of the equiptment wall which I did myself) but I don't think that we have had 3 days in a row without rain in a month...texture crew comes out of Kansas City (3 hours) and PebbleTec out of St. Louis (3 hours).

The rain has slowed a bit and the crew is supposed to be here tomorrow to apply the epoxy and pebble stone finish to my concrete retaining walls and then the pebbletec is supposed to be applied on Wednesday. My PB placed a couple of boulders in the swim out to make getting out a little easier and I installed the accent tile on the steps and bench seat. Electrician still has to finish up the equiptment but he is coming back tomorrow.Looks like my kids will be swimming soon.
Got the landscape bid/plan back Friday..looks really good except for the price.

I wonder why they didnt just use the filter pump for the water features.

    racket,
I asked my pb this and he said that he said that he just wanted me to have plenty of water when I needed it and I am fine with this.
The crew started installing the epoxy/stone on the concrete walls today and I really like it. The still have quite a few walls, one sidewalk, and the deck pillars to do so I expect them to be here for a couple more days.
Electricians go more wiring done today..I had them run 100 amps to the sub panel for later use. Pebbletec is supposed to be here tomorrow morning so things are moving pretty fast.

It still seem kind of silly especially w/ an easy touch. You could drop a single variable speed, plus a divertor and have a really awesome system.

That is sooo gorgeous! Congrats, it's going to be stunning when it's complete!

Pebbletec is just getting ready to start..I am the second pool of the day.

Awesome!!! I've watched your posts for a long time, hard to believe you're finally about to fill :-)

    thanks tresw,
It has been a long time since my build first started but it was planned to take this long. I will post updated photos a little later..the pebbletec crew is just starting to wash off the plaster and I am getting the first look at the Tahoe Blue finish.

Congrats! Just checking to see your progress. You'll be swimming soon - looks great.

Pebbletec crew got finshed up just before dark and I am glad they got to me yesterday 'cause it is really raining this morning...hopefully it will stop long enough to get the acid wash in. I am REAL happy with the epoxy stone finish on the walls and it seems to go well with the pebbletec.. concrete decking gets a miracote random flagstone finish and my pb will start on this right away. Thanks for all of the comments and knowledge I have gained on this site.

Well the water is almost to the skimmers at 6:00 and it has been a long day. Started out nice and then we had some severe thunderstorms and the temp dropped about 20 degrees...my pb was finishing up the plumbing and electricians were finishing up but didn't quite make it but at least the pumps are all working. Got some plantings done today and it is nice to see some color. More pic's in a few days.

It looks great!! Are you doing the landscaping yourself? We're in the landscaping phase now too, we've got a whole lotta stuff sitting out back waiting to go in the ground and 4 yards of topsoil in the drive. We've got a busy weekend ahead!

    tresw,
Yes I am doing the landscaping myself. I had one of the local landscape companies design everything and I am buying all of my plantings, mulch, and supplies from them. Have fun on your plantings this weekend!

It looks soo awesome! Can't wait to see the landscaping! It will make such a difference! LOVES IT! CONGRATS!

Looks great, post another pic in a week when the chemicals are balanced.

SATL: WONDERFUL pool! I've been following your progress all year, and it's just beautiful!

    Enjoy! -Melissa

The setting is just awesome.. the design just fits in with it's surroundings. VERY beautiful. I am green (or shall I say blue) with envy, congrats! nice job!

Miracote was put on this weekend and my boys took their first dip...no propane to the heater yet but it didn't matter to them. I still have landscape to finish but getting closer.

How beautiful and worth the wait! Congratulations on your new pool! The color is great, this makes my decision solid, I am definately going with the Tahoe Blue for our pool! Thank you very much for the pics!

Wow, what a pool, it looks beyond fantastic. You did some pretty neat finishes. That pebble tec look outside the pool on the walls was wild....never seen that before! Then the kool deck coating is amazing. In Florida, kool deck is so popular but I have never seen the flagstone kool deck look. I am curious to see how that holds up. I know you recently referred to it as Miracote, but in the beginning you called it a kool deck. Is that the same thing? I was surprised you didnt do a stamped concrete to look like flagstone. Any specific reason you chose the kool deck painted on rather than the stamped concrete? Regardless, its truly beautiful.

    gk5040,
I was originally going with kool deck but decided to try something different with the miracote finish..it is actually a 3 part system to get the look I have and I have a 5 year warranty from my pb. Thanx!!!

The view and infinity edge is beautiful. Heck, the WHOLE POOL is beautiful, but is there anything to keep someone from sliding off that deck and dropping to the next level?

    I'm a worrier....

It all turned out great! Congrats, and thanks for keeping us updated over these many months! :-)

I have really enjoyed reading about all the decisions and watching the progress of your pool as well as tresw's pool the last few months. Your steep lot must have been a challenge, but the view is surely incredible. What a wonderful place to share with family and friends.Great job with great choices in materials and colors. Keep up the good work!

What a beautiful house and pool. My buddy has a property up there and is trying to talk me into buying something near him on the lake. I may have to make a trip up there after seeing your pictures.

The water is up to 76 degrees and I took my first plunge on Friday evening. My plan for many months has been to do a cannonball for my first dip into the pool and I accomplished this much to the delight of my sons :)
BBQ last night and then fireworks across the lake made for a very pleasant time.
janey...as far as your question on falling off of the pool deck..I have to put a fence on the sides but really don't want to fence towards the lake...it is about a 3' dropoff onto a mulch area with some plantings (soft ones with no stickers/thorns)if you would fall and then grass in front of that. The POA will inspect my pool when I am completely finished with everything and will give me the final verdict. href="http://s196.photobucket.com/albums/aa114/summersatthelake/?action=view&current=fireworks1Medium.jpg"; target="_blank">

What a beautiful sight! Everything looks just gorgeous!

I love your pool! The design and view are so amazing.

We are looking to put tile on our steps and bench and yours look great. What size tile did you use?

    Thanks!

    mom,
The stone tile is about 2"x2" and I bought it at Lowes...they were on a 12"x12" backing sheet and I bought a few sheets and picked out the colors I liked..they really help to define the steps when you are getting in and out.

What a beautiful pool. Love the choices that you made. Watching fireworks over the lake and you could even be in the pool has got to be great.
