So, earlier this summer, I spent an entire week prepping and staining my deck since it hadn't been done since we moved in 3 years ago. The wood was pretty gray and weathered, so I literally got down on my hands and knees and scrubbed the whole deck clean, just so that it would look good for a couple years! After several trips to the local Ace (the guy told me two buckets of stain would be enough for my deck, but it took an additional two buckets (which required a trip to a different Ace since the first ran out after three!)) my deck finally looked good! For about a month. This summer in Illinois has actually been pretty mild, so there hasn't been extensive heat, rain or otherwise to warrant an already worn looking deck, but, either way, I'm not satisified. What do I do now? Should I apply another coat of stain to the entire deck? Should I simply apply a coat of something like Thompson's water sealer? Should I do both? Or, maybe I should just light the whole deck on fire and rebuild it with the composite wood that never needs staining. Any suggestions?
