Has anyone dyed grout on a pool?

Hello All,

I recently won a backyard makeover that includes a pool. We are very excited, however, the tile guys put in the wrong color grout. They aren't too anxious to correct it, but did say they might be able to dye it. The existing white grout looks terrible with the blue and brown small tiles. Has anyone ever had this done and how long should I expect it to last? I would attatch a pic, but I don't see an option to do that.

Don't know the answer to your question but interested in the answer as well. Just wanted to say congrats on winning the makeover!

You have to upload your photo(may need resized) to a third party hosting site(some are free) then copy and paste the code(link to picture) in your message.

Yeah, congratulations! How did you win this? Are you going to post pics?

My grout was supposed to be grey, but from a distance it looks white. Aquamix makes a grout colorant product that is wonderful. I asked about using it in my pool over on the bathroom forum and the tile experts over there weren't sure. I contacted this company via email and never got a response. I didn't press the issue, because it is on the bottom of my priority list.

The product does say it's applicable for exterior use, I'm just not sure about the grout right at the waterline that stays wet all the time. Here's the link if you're interested.

Hi Houseful, thanks for the congrats! I heard about a backyard makeover that a morning tv talk show here in Houston was giving away. It was for the "most deserving" family. I had to write a brief paragraph and submit pics of my backyard. We have 3 boys in wheelchairs plus another very active boy. Actually, I think the tv clips are still on the website, www.greatdayhouston.com. You click on, "and the winner is...". We were finalists #4. It was all done by voting online.

It has been a wonderful experience for all of us. We are getting not only a pool, but a spa, kitchen and mosquito control system, landscaping, pergola and extra decking. I will post pics as soon as I figure out how!

Regarding the grout stain, I called a 1-800# off of a bottle of stain I saw at Home Depot. I forgot the brand, but they said it wouldn't hold up to the chlorine water. Rats. This white grout looks like bathtub caulking. Yuck. There is too much of it to remove (lots of small tiles on a large wall as well as waterline tile). I hate to make a fuss since I think the pool company has already gone over their $60,000 budget. They are putting in an upgrade finish that is smoother than plaster as well as a few other extra items. I guess I'll have to just plan on staining the grout every year or so.

How did the staining worked for you? I had the same problem right now. Can you please tell me what was your experience?
