Ogee is my personal fave (or double ogee if you want to splurge).

It also depends upon what style you're going for, though - contemporary / cottage / classic / transitional / whathaveyou.

I was considering ogee but was told that risk of chipping is higher in kitchen. Our home is traditional home and we cook a lot in the kitchen.
Some concern also about lighter granite color and blending of the seam etc.

I'm boring. I went with a standard square for the perimeter counter (to match the edge on my butcher block), and a double pencil on the ledge above/behind the island sink.

I found out today that they can customize the edge - just to add to your choices!!

I've also seen examples of funky do-hickey edges (hmmm, no idea what to call them) as they go around islands.

I went with ogee. Have a look:

I lost the edge choice "battle" so we wound up with a full bullnose. I am not fond of it at all. But just to give you an idea of what a 2 cm light granite with a laminated edge looks like here's a pic:

We went with cheap, unfortunately, and I'm afraid it shows in the seaming some. But honestly looking at it normally you don't really notice it at all.

Granite is really hard stuff. Unless you plan to get one with a lot of big crystals / occlusions I wouldn't worry about chipping. Even with them I wouldn't be too concerned.

We went with a long ogee edge in our kitchen. We really wanted the granite to be a focal point. This picture was take before the backsplash was installed:

Our ensuite granite is 2cm with a built up edge. We did a simple eased and polished wdge, but the bottom built up layer is set back about 1/8". Looks pretty cool and makes the seam much less noticeable.

jen19083...is that giallo ornamental granite? I cannot decided on my color choice and there is a browner and a whiter Giallo Ornamental and yours looks like the lighter. My husband loves it and wants full backsplash with it but I have an all white kitchen and I'm afraid it won't contrast enough or blend enough. Hmmmm??? Yours sure is pretty and tempting me. :) jan

Thanks boxerpups. It's an OK edge but not my style. It's too modern-looking and I think is out of place in our kitchen. In "cheap" I was referring to the fact that when we chose a fabricator, we went solely on cost.

jb1176: Thanks to you, too. The granite is Arcobaleno (which is actually a quartzite).

I have an OG edge. It may be to ornate for some but I love it I think it is very pretty. I also love the pencil or simplicity of the eased edge.

I have to make a decision on my granite edge by tomorrow. The "free" choices are:

Eased
Quarter Round
Quarter Bevel
1/2 Bevel
3/4 Bevel

I'm leaning towards 3/4 bevel. I think it dresses it up a little. The island is going to be extended outwards by 5" to give more space for dining. The granite is Millenium Cream (see pic below).

I have white cabinets that I'm in the middle of repainting (white), am replacing the hardware with oil rubbed bronze, and doing a tile backsplash on the diagonal (beige stone look.) My house is a cedar contemporary and I guess you'd call the kitchen traditional (?) Ogee is out of the question because it's more $$. Please ignore my vinyl flooring - I'm planning to replace that with hardwood - but that's on the backburner....maybe next tax refund!

I like the 3/4 bevel bec it is enough of a bevel to look like it was done on purpose. Is eased square?

Chloe's Mom - yes eased is square. Reminds me too much of the laminate I have now even though I know it would look different in granite.....

OMG..... Kevin, have you taught this to anyone in the chicago area (that you would recommend?) I LOVE IT, I GOTTA HAVE IT!
