Help me decide

OK, so it's a little thing, but since our kitchen is little and our budget is little it makes a big difference.

Costco has KitchenAid stand mixers on "sale" right now. I thought I wanted the gray/silver but now that I have it at home I'm not really loving it. It looks too much like one of the commercial mixers. I'm thinking exchange it for the white one, Hubby is voting for black. (Actually he wants the fire engine red one but that will soooo not go with our kitchen. He likes the red so much he suggested changing our color scheme 0 that is until I pointed out we'd have to replace our granite too.)

The kitchen is leaning towards traditional / country. I like old-fashioned things and drool over Victorian. Hubby is into the plain lines/austere modern look, though in design tests he comes up as traditional. He points out that our stove is modern looking (only by necessity) and is stainless/black. Dishwasher is stainless.

A few pics to give you an idea:

Mixer will probably "live" somewhere on the right counter seen in this pic:

Obviously it's still in progress. Floor is white oak that will be stained Cordovan (looks a lot like Minwax's Jacobean walnut).

    We chose the white one!
And I keep mine covered with a pretty kitchen towel. I live in farm country and everything always gets dusty.
I used to have a sunbeam stand mixer-that was gold. I have learned my lesson about colors...

What color are the cabinets going to be (I assume you are painting them since the door are off?) Walls? One issue about black is it does show every teensy spec of dust, every smear, etc. Anyway, tell us more about your other colors.

White! I have a white one and never tire of it. I have a dark blue hand mixer and I wish it were white, even though it doesn't live on the counter. Think flour on any surface and every time I use the blue one, it calls for a detailed cleaning.

I am a sucker for red. I bought the red LG washer and dryer. They are tons more work than my old white pair and if I were doing it over, they would be white.

The colors you see in the pics are (pretty much) the colors that are staying. The lower cabs were redone to a slightly deeper stain color. The pic with the stove has the right color. The doors are off because Hubby is building brand new raised panel ones. (Top ones will be arched.)

If you click through you can see more pics of the granite, etc. The granite itself is purple/blue/gray/white swirls with small specs of pink and sparkly bits here and there. Walls are violet, backsplash is a slightly on the warm side of white (at least for now - I'm hoping to trade it for a 6" piece of our granite but that will be a couple of years). Kitchen sink is a Silgranit in silver/gray. Hardware is brushed nickel/stainless.

The gray actually goes OK due to all the silvers and grays (which is why I picked it initially) but it looks too institutional to me (I used to work on the restaurant business with those huge gray Hobart mixers).

golddust: great point about the flour.

Another white one here! Love red, but white will always
    go with everything.

White. Much easier to keep clean, oddly enough, and completely classic.

You could get rose decals to match your backsplash... LOL (DH wants the flames. Probably because Alton Brown has that on his mixer. Hee hee!)

I have the white professional model (the crank bowl, not lift-top - you wanna talk Hobarts! same machine, different label) and it does get pretty dusty and scrungy looking since we have forced hot air heating which even with a housewide air cleaner on it throws a lot of dust around. The black coffeemaker and microwave show it even more! So I seriously recommend considering a cover unless you like cleaning or have a much less dusty house than we do.

I spent my share of time head down and butt in the air cleaning 30 gallon Hobarts too. :-) (I used to cook and bake professionally too, although those days are long gone and will never come again - body is too wrecked for me to stand comfortably for 1/2 hour at once, much less 12+!)

I have the red one. Don't care what color my kitchen is now or will be down the road. "Stella" is my girl and I wouldn't have her any other color :)

Actually, johnmari, I love those decals and they'd go great with my style. Thanks for the idea. The model at Costco is the lift-up 475 watt one (Professional HD). Can't wait to use it.

mzdee: If we hadn't already spent the $$$ on the granite I'd consider the red. Actually, if they had a pink or purple one I'd be all over it.
