Ok--- but this is inconclusive by itself---what is the temp of a similar light colored pool in your area?

Dark pool here as well. I am in the Tampa area...no screen.

Got back from a 5 day vacation to find the thermometer in the skimmer read just above 90 degrees. I think we even got some rain here too while we were gone.

None the less, I was pleasantly surprised. I LOVE bathtub temps. :)

I have ocean blue pebblesheen (Chicago) and the past week the temps have been in the mid 80's during the day, mid fifties at night. Keep the heater at 79 and keep the pool covered with an electronic cover. On the weekends the pool heats up to 82 degrees (3+) during the day when I open the cover. I attribute this to sunlight as the temp does not change if the cover is kept closed.

cdclw, I have no idea what the answer to that question is. However, my father has a screened pool about 25 miles east of me and he just added solar heat to it. His pool is a traditional light-colored plaster finish, and I think he struggled to get to 80 degrees before the heater. However, his pool is in the center of his house and is surrounded by walls on all four sides. This might be further affecting his temp.

Well, I'm in Central Florida - East Coast. My pool is light colored, with no screen, full sun exposure / no shade. I don't have a thermometer, but I know it is not in the 90's. I, too, love hot water, and I am still a bit chilly in mine. Yesterday was significantly warmer than it has been all year, but still in the low to mid 80's, I'd say. How's that for a very non-scientific control??

So glad to hear more info on this discussion! Any liner pool owners out there with nice toasty warm pools and dark liners? If so what's your color called?

We have a screen and Tropical Breeze Pebble Tec which is a medium blue. Our pool is at 89 in the afternoon without running any heat. So, I'm one degree lower than the other two people in my town without screens.

My Tropical Breeze PT pool is approximately the same size as my next door neighbor's white plaster pool. We typically run about 5 degrees warmer than he. No screens on either pool.

Our pool is dark gray plaster about 25k gallons. The neighbors on both sides of me have white plaster pools- no larger than 20k gallons. Last summer our pool was always at least 7 degrees warmer than theirs. Ours has a waterfall, theirs does not. One neighbors pool is only about 30 feet from ours. I can think of no other variables that can cause this beside the plaster color. Oh and I know our heater wasn't on! BTW, last August I couldn't get our pool temp under 90. In order to cool off I had to jump in, then get out and let the slight breeze cool me.

Now we are getting some better "controls" ---looking like 5-7 deg delta. Looking like ambient is about 90ish. Seems most of you are in FL, and some have problem with too warm. I am in costal SO. CA, where it gets cool at night-- many folks here use solar to warm almost year round. Curious what the color/temp effect is here.

We are in Southern California and resurfaced our pool with Black Pearl Pebbletec 2 years ago. It is at least 5 degrees warmer than it was before in summer.

Currently, with the long days the uncovered pool will rise more than 3 degrees from morning, before the sun hits it, until late afternoon when it is once more in shade. We have had weather in the low to mid 70's for the last few weeks and the pool ends up consistently higher than the air temperature high for the day. This is without any pool cover at night.

We have found the best way to maximize temperature is to cover the pool at night and uncover it while the sun hits it.

We also love the look of the black pool, which was the primary reason we chose it in the first place.

we are in south florida, Palm Bch Cty, sunstone , forgot the color name (white with blue specs)(water is a nice light blue), no screen, no heater, temp this past weekend (and the air temp was HOT), the therm said 81.
I'm sure the darker plaster has some effect.....

I have a WHITE fiberglass pool in NJ and when temps outside get up to 85 degrees my pool will go up 4 degrees from 84 to 88 degrees. I use a solar cover at night.

I am in Bakersfield, CA where summertime temps regularly rise above 100 during the day and often does not cool much at night. My pool is a light to medium grey plaster and it has never gone above 90 degrees. Been close but not over. From what I have seen it is within a few degrees of white plaster pools in the area. I do have a sheer descent waterfall which is rarely on. I know some of the real dark gray pools will rise into the 90's.

This is interesting. I'm enjoying hearing what everyone else is experiencing. Good thread, if I say so myself!

I'm in Austin TX, med gray plaster...yesterday temp was 94! We're going to start running the pump in split sessions (dawn and mid-afternoon) so that we can hopefully get the temp down a bit lower since it isn't even really hot here yet.

Vegas here. We have a 15 year old pool which was originally white plaster. With a solar blanket kept on at night, we could keep the pool at 84 degrees. We resurfaced with a Carribean blue pebble sheen a few years ago and all other factors being the same, the pool stays at 90. Same thermometer too. Barb

I'm in Tampa, FL and had midnight blue pebble applied last month. During the day the water temp. is 87 and that's with a screen enclosure. It's not even summer yet so I'm sure the water temp will hit 90. We've lived in this house 7 years and I'm convinced that the darker finish adds to the water temp. because our pool never got up above 84 until we resurfaced.

Tuesday with the solar running and the solar blanket on from 10 AM to 4 PM, the temp was 101 when I got home!

Now that is a WARM pool!

The temperature outside has been around 102. With the solar running, I am at 87 degrees (perfect)!! We have Ocean Blue pebble sheen.

Another Northern CA person here. Our temps have been 100+ for a couple of days, 80-90 for a few weeks before that. We get the cool delta breezes at night to cool off the hot temps quite nicely.

We have Tahoe Blue PebbleTec, no solar. Prior to this week, our pool was 78 degrees pretty regularly (boys thought it was great, but with the evening breezes, it was still too chilly for me). This week it has been 84 degrees (didn't check the temp yet today), and PERFECT!

We are in the Eastern Panhandle of WV. 20 minutes between MD and VA.
We have a Midnight Shimmer (black with sparkles of blue and shades of gold) fiberglass pool.
When we don't run the solar...it hangs around the 80-82 range...with the solar...we jacked it up to 91 and it reached it no problem.
Great for evening swimming with the mountain breezes. Jenn
