I haven't used them in a long time because I found them to be overpriced for custom work.

I went there recently to get two 50"by 63" sheer panels made. They had a fabric I thought I wanted to use. I think the quote was like $600 during a sale. Too rich for my blood! (oh and the fabric was $16.99 a yard, so not super expensive fabric. I was only asking for the panels to be as wide as they could be from the roll.)

I used them five years ago for a very large and expensive order. Their work was guaranteed, which is one of the reasons I used them. It took eight months to get delivery on the last of the items as several rooms needed to be redone. When I had a small problem a few years down the line, the assistant manager whom I had worked with had retired, the new manager did not back up the guaranty, and the fabric that I wanted to supplement--because I had been told that they would carry it forever--had been discontinued. Most of the window treatments they did are lovely, in my opinion, but I do think some of them were overpriced, notably some of the roman shades. I paid about 1/3 per yard for some of my silk compared to the prices quoted me by some designers and at some design centers, but I paid a lot for labor and waited what I consider a long time. My windows aren't easy, some are very high and required custom lengths and sun-protective linings, etc., but I'm not sure I'd use Calico Corners again.

I am so sorry to read about kitchendetective's poor customer service experience.

Well, during one of their sales (on fabric & labor) I used them three years ago. I thought the price was terrific (seriously) and the quality is superb. We had drapes, a bedskirt, headboard and some pillows made. I'd planned on buying a Ralph Lauren red / cream buffalo check fabric, but when I went in I saw a CC fabric sooo similar -- the only difference was the cream was much creamier (less white) and the price was $30 per yard less than the RL. B-I-G difference. Because of going with the CC fabric I was able to have them make everything; if I'd purchased the RL fabric, even on sale, I'd've had to make it myself (could not justify the labor cost).

When the headboard arrived it had been made in the navy / cream buffalo check, which was not what I had chosen. I have never, ever had such an easy, quick resolution: I called them after the delivery men left (with the headboard) and they said "we'll have it remade" and they apologized. I love an apology (because let's face it, it is sooo rare these days).

Oh wait! I totally forgot I also had silk drapes made ten years ago -- different house, different state, different CC store, same experience (meaning good). Those drapes are so terrific: I brought them with us to this house and had them reworked to fit this window. Those are some substantial drapes -- thoroughly, heavily lined.

With fabric I brought back from the UK I had a local person make roman shades for us and they're ... okay. By the time everything is added up (fabric & independent labor) it was probably a bit less expensive than the CC on sale. However, I strongly suspect if I'd been able to get this particular fabric at CC and have them make the shades the quality would be superior to what I have, and therefore worth the increase in price.

So that's my experience. Wait for the sale (which they have twice a year, I think?) and I say Go For It!

I used Calico Corners to order my head/foot slipcovered dining chairs when they were having a fabric and labor sale.

I used one of their less expensive linens but it's almost a perfect match to the Shabby Chic oyster linen slips I have on my side chairs. Very good quality and the slipcovers are perfect.

I have two pair or drapes that I had made at CC when they were having a labor sale a few years back. Neither one are done with expensive fabric (I wouldn't hesitate to use them again--but only at their sale prices....LOL

I find their quality excellent. I don't have drapes but I have always admired the quality and workmanship that I have seen in their stores. They are pricey for drapes and fabrics but sometimes you can get some great prices on their clearance fabrics which sometimes can amount to 50% off.

I do have a sofa and chair that I bought from CC 10 yrs ago and am now in the process of reupholstering. Just can't give them up since the contruction is great. We bought new fabric from CC and priced out the labor. CC wanted $200 more during their 20% off sale for labor than the place we use for our drapes, Pasquarellos, who does upholstering. We are going to save the $200 and use them since I know the quality of their craftsmanship and their cutomer service.

Our daughter had new window treatmwnts made for her
dining room and living room from CC. They are absolutely top notch and gorgeous.

I used them for simple custom drapes several years ago. They messed up the top, it was supposed to be rod pocket with a header, and they made it without the header. The fabric was discontinued so they couldn't re-do it. They didn't give me any kind of compensation. Despite this I later bought a simple parson's chair from them. The man who wrote the order said it would need NINE YARDS of fabric. This is for one small chair. I believed him and like a sucker paid for nine yards. Later my designer said that was erroneous.

When that chair developed problems, they wouldn't do a thing about it.

I might purchase fabric from them, that's it.

I had a in-house consultation with them and while I don't doubt they would do a great job with custom work, they are most definitely way overpriced. They told me they would need to come back for measurements (would charge for that), then it woud be something like 1300 per window (for roman shades?), then a fee for installation.
I did adore a particular fabric they had though (could not find it anyhere else) which was $104 per yard. I waited for their sale and got it for $79 per yard and then went to a seamstress who made what I requested at $150 per shade and DH installed. I am happy with them - maybe there would have been less work on our part with CC custom and maybe (but who knows) they would have looked even better (even though I love them!) but to me all those maybes do not even come close to justifying paying $2000 more (75% more than I paid for everything including fabric).
