Beadboard Ceiling?

I am thinking of a beadboard ceiling in my kitchen. Anyone have any experience/photos to share. I am particularly interested in how to trim- Thanks!

Ours is tongue and groove pine, not beadboard, but the effect is similar.

Thanks! We did it that way for two reasons. First, we were joining two rooms, one with the original plaster ceiling from 1942 and one with a nasty drop ceiling from around 1970. I didn't believe my GC when he told me he could match the new part of the ceiling to the old with no visible seam, so I figured this would solve the problem. Second, we have two adjoining rooms with wooden ceilings. Our living room has a pecky cypress ceiling, and the sunroom has one in tongue and groove pine, much like the one in the kitchen, so the idea seemed to fit in this house. It never occurred to me that I would simply like the look a lot better!

One SERIOUS disadvantage, however, is there is no room for mistakes when deciding where to put lights, vents, etc. You can't just patch this ceiling and move a lighting fixture to a different spot. Don't ask me how I know this.

Not exactly beadboard--we are putting up paintable vinyl beadboard wallpaper on the ceiling in the new part of the kitchen, keeping room, and new part of our den. The farmhouse we are renovating has beadboard walls and ceilings but we couldn't afford the expense of 3/4" real beadboard so researched some options and this is what we came up for the ceiling. So far, so good (walls are paneled beadboard). Everyone that comes and sees can't believe it is wallpaper and since everywhere it is put up is separated from adjoining room by a beam or is totally new construction, it helps hide the difference.

Here is a link to the thread I posted w/ a picture. You can tell the old and new because we haven't caulked/cleaned up the old yet in this picture.

We are thinking about doing a beadboard ceiling too. But I love the look of the tongue & groove of holligator's kitchen as well. Is there a difference in the thickness between the two?

holligator: you mentioned plaster - did you put the tongue & groove over a plaster ceiling by chance? Our ceiling is plaster & would like to know the best way to attach either beadboard or tongue & groove over plaster.

Not meaning to hijack your thread hoodgrad. Thanks for asking the question.

We got a quote to put up beadboard on our ceiling, which is vaulted and has two beams .. it was somewhere around $2300. It's pretty big, but I would have to look up measurements. Maybe 600 sq ft?
