Spa dam wall

I believe our spa is called a submerged spa (within rectanglular pool, auto cover goes over both pool and spa). Our designer specified 6" spa dam walls and our PB is saying they need to be 12". Can the dam walls be less thick--are their consequences?

12" dam walls are common in Southern California. The double curtain of steel is stronger and will stand up better over the years. With a wider dam wall you will be able to install spa jets in the wall. 6" dam walls are only done by the lower end builders.

Mine are 8" here in Florida, but our earth doesn't shake as much!
