Making Choices This Week - HELP!

My wife and I are building our first home and making kitchen selections this week. She has a good grasp on decorating and can visualize things -- I, however, can not.

I am hoping that someone (or several someones) can post pictures of a kitchen containing the following:

Cabinets that are stained "Spanish Black" (or just regular black is fine)

Granite counter tops in "Venetian Gold"

Back splash in "Tumbled Stone", set on the diagonal

Paint will be "Wise Owl" from Kelly-Moore

Ceramic floor tiles will be a neutral tan-ish color

I hope that's not being too picky! We're taking ideas and suggestions on the back splash, as the tumbled stone is their baseline offering, and we can pay to upgrade it if we want.

I'm afraid it will be too monochromatic, but my wife says she can use accent pieces for "pop". Help me see my wife's vision!

Thanks -- this is my very first post, so I'm hoping to get lots of great feedback.

    Welcome, LtHixson!

Have you checked the Finished Kitchens Blog (FKB)? You can search for kitchens with various attributes...cabinet color/finish, countertop, etc.

Click on the "FKB Categories" link in the right navigation panel of any FKB page.

While you're at it, have you had a chance to read the "Read Me" thread? It has quite a bit of useful information for anyone new to the Kitchens Forum, new to Kitchen remodeling, or both.

    Good luck!

Here is a link that might be useful: Read Me If You're New To GW Kitchens!

I hate to say it, but I am more with you on this. It sounds a little expected and ordinary. It will make it clear that the house was built within these past few years. Almost all new builds use the same scheme when the builder is choosing. Your black cabs are the only deviation from the builder formula I see a lot around here.
It is a very safe combo, but is it something either of you love?
btw - I am a real estate agent, so I see many flips and new builds in my day to day life.

buehl, I appreciate the help! I'm sorry if I posted in the wrong area. I will definitely check out the Finished Kitchens Blog.

dianalo, unfortunately we're somewhat limited in our budget so I don't know if we can spend too much on upgrading from the builder's choices. My wife is dead set on the dark cabinets, so those are in for sure. And you're right -- neither of us "love" the granite, backsplash, or floor tile. That's why I turned for help and suggestions on this forum, because we're in a time crunch and the folks on here seem like they've "been there, done that".

I'll check the FKB and see if I can find some other granite and back splash combos that might be in our price range. In the meantime, I'm still taking suggestions...

Thank you both for your advice!

I think it sounds beautiful, if anything I would cut out the tumble stone on a diagonal. As nice as it is, it's really hard to pick a backsplash thats not too trendy. Right now glass tiles or subways are popular as well as the tumbled set straight. You have lots of options and a backsplash can be done later.

You didn't post in the wrong area...the FKB is part of our Forum here (created & maintained by our own StarPooh). It's a great resource for looking at finished kitchens and searching for those that meet your criteria. I was just pointing you to it b/c I figured you didn't know about it yet.

What are the other granite choices? I love the black cabinets...maybe there is something that might look less expected than the Venitian Gold?

nini, there are 5 choices: Venetian Gold, Santa Cecelia, Brazilian Black, Uba Tuba, and Tan Brown (please forgive any spelling errors!) The last 3 would be too dark with black cabinets, in my opinion. We went to Home Depot today and looked at Santa Cecelia, and we're thinking of maybe going that way because it didn't look as "buttery" to us (which my wife wants to stay away from). We're supposed to go to the granite store tomorrow and look at an entire slab, and we're told that will help a lot.

Buehl, I appreciate you telling me about it! I did look at it, and there are a TON of great kitchens. I stayed up last night and had about 20 pics pulled up this morning for my wife to look at, and every little bit helps.
