I paid about $600 for 6 20 in. pillows and also 6 12x18 pillows. So, twelve total. That comes out to be about 50 dollars ea. Plus the fabric. I'm in Ohio if that helps!

Polkadots - that sounds high to me. I would guess that price with the fabric factored in. Although I did just reread your post and saw that it includes the down insert. I think those can run $30 just for the insert, so I guess that price sounds ok. I know I made my own pillows, but my workroom I have used for drapes etc. made my piping and they charged $2 a yard for the labor, plus the cost of the piping and I had to provide the fabric. So it all adds up. They're probably charging you $30 for the insert, $10 for the piping, $30 labor on each pillow which probably takes them an hour to cutout, sew and finish.

So after all that, I change my mind, I guess it's a fair price!

Oh My, I guess I feel fortunate. I live in a suberb of Oklahoma City and deal with a very nice, yet very unorganized ,Vietamese lady for sewing my pillows, curtains,bed skirts, etc. She only charges about $20.00 labor/ per pillow. Her inserts are about $12.00 ea.

Thanks lisa, carole, and gracie. Sounds like I'm in the ballpark somewhat. I'm sure I could find cheaper, but I have to weigh the time it takes to look around etc., plus I got the quote through a guy at a furniture store who is helping me order new chairs, so that factors in. He is getting me a better price on the fabric, so that helps.

If it makes you feel any better, the designer at the store I ordered my chairs from quoted me $900 for 2 down filled custom fabric pillows 11x18. And, no, I did not order them.

I just had two small (9x16) pillows made out of silk with a corded roping around the pillows for around $45 each.

Really, it doesn't sound bad.
I had 3 at Calico corners made - total for everything $300. One was a small lumbar pillow:( That was before I got more crafty at finding better deals. Now, I have an upholster do it for $25 labor.

Hi johna! Things are coming along. I ordered fabric for the drapes. It's a textured silk (almost like a linen in texture, but richer, and doesn't wrinkle like linen). I really think it is going to work well in the room. It is a couple shades darker than the walls. Fabric should be here this week, then they can get started. I am using my original floral inspiration fabric for pillows on the sofa and maybe another chair. I ended up rearranging the room sort of back to how I had it before but with the fireplace as the focal point - creating a conversation area around the fireplace while still being able to see the TV from some chairs. I ordered two new chairs in a stripe (a new fabric from Sherrill that I guess I never took a picture of!). They will be across from the fireplace and perpendicular to the sofa (this part of the arrangement is new). I also found a great mirror that I think will look great on the wall above these chairs. I'll have a table with a lamp on it in between the chairs. This probably makes no sense, but I guess you could say I've made some progress - YEAH! Can't wait to get it all. Thanks for asking. Sounds about in line with shop rates and what I'd charge.

After I chose my living room furniture around some fabric I found at the furniture store I finally got around to asking how much pillows out of this fabric would be. The furniture order was placed and now I was ready to place the pillow order. It was in the Henredon line so i knew better than to use it for the actual furniture. Well my down filled pillows that are probably around 20" also came to $140 each. I was so out of touch, I had NO idea they would be that much. I just handed them my credit card and told DH not to open his mouth...LOL. So anyway, I think reality is that your price isn't bad for those of us who can't sew.

I was surprised it was so low! Around here I've been running across custom pillows more at what Budge was saying. Huuundreds of dollars per pillow.

The cost of custom pillows and curtains makes me so glad that I can sew well enough to suit my standards! I wouldn't/couldn't pay hundreds for an accent pillow!

For some reason when you order accent pillows from a furniture store, the price is ridiculous. The furniture store people were even embarrassed to tell me the price. The problem is that it's difficult if not impossible to find the same upholstery fabric that a manufacturer uses for their furniture lines some where else. I ended up not having matching fabric to my chair and matched to my drapes because I wasn't going to spend $140 per pillow. I'm glad I made that decision because my dog just decide to use my new pillow as a play toy this evening and pulled some of the fringe apart on one of the pillows!!

Carole, the fabric I am using is $55/yard (that is a good discount off of retail). So that will put each pillow at nearly $100 (it has a large repeat). I am able to get the matching fabric to my chairs from them for around $46/yard, so I am going to order a yard of that as well to have another pillow or two made. That is a stripe so it should make each pillow a little less and better than actually having the furniture manufacturer make them. These projects are never ending and the nickles and dimes certainly kill ya! Sorry about your pillow :( .

I’ve read many of the comments here and thought I would shed a little light. First of all I work for a decorator and I have made numerous pillows, all shapes and sizes. There is so much more than cutting and putting two fabric panels together. If there is a pattern, a good seamstress will match up the pattern front and back. If there is cording you sew the cording to the front, then sew the front to the back leaving enough room to fill it and then hand sew it together. You should never see those stitches. If the insert doesn’t completely fill your pillow then you hand stuff the corners with fill. A good seamstress will never leave lines or lumps where it was filled. If you pillow is zippered that is a whole different and more labor intensive process. Then when it is finally finished it is important to steam it carefully so there are no wrinkles or creases. Anyone who can do all of this in an hour is amazing. If you are paying $50 a yard for fabric, you definitely want to someone who does quality work to make your pillow. My husband always tells me you pay for what you get.

Looks like i am undercharging for my custom pillow cover sewing services. Labor cost is $22 including zipper for an 18”x18” pillow without welting. Location is Annapolis, Md.
