I feel your pain. I was there once and finally had to just take a leap of faith. I settled on Pool Rover, though it is for above ground pools and I suspect yours is an in-ground pool. I would, however go with a robotic cleaner. The filter doesn't need to be running while you are vacuuming, you won't have to replace the sand or silicone in your filter as often and the way they operate adds another level of filtration. Yes, you have to clean them out and to extend their life you shouldn't leave them in the pool all the time, but it is SO worth it. Mine has been a life-saver. Take it from someone who was her own "pool-boy" for two years. I LOVE it!

Thank you Grandmamaloy for your post and direction. I would really like to get something less expensive. Maybe around 300. I have read review after review on these things dying after the 1 year warranty and I just can't afford to watch 1000.00 go away. We have hand cleaned our pool since the house was built in 78! Now it's my Mom responsibility and mine when I visit I try and clean it. It's not that big a deal but hey if we can simplify things GREAT! BTW we have one of those paper filters now, not the sand don't know if that changes things.

I bought "The Pool Cleaner" yes it does go up the sides
