Refigerator

We're going to need a new refrigerator, maybe before we sell and move. Is it better to buy something that can stay with the house, or would it be just as good to buy what we want and take it with us?

All other kitchen appliances will stay, and we planned to offer the option of leaving this refrigerator or we could dispose of it. However, it is white, all other appliances are black, the ice maker is broken, and it is really starting to look old.

I am starting to think we should buy an adequate replacement and plan to include it in the sale of the house.

What do you think?

i'd buy something that matches the appliances you have and leave it..Who knows if what you buy and decide to take will match the next homes appliances,or if you'll even need it...Just don't spring for a Sub-Zero ;)

If it will make your kitchen look better I would buy it and include it with the house. Sounds like your old one is going to stick out like a sore thumb and not help the overall look of your kitchen.

Most people don't want to move a refrigerator if they don't have to.

Buy a new lower end fridge that matches your other appliances and plan on leaving it.

Id get a new frig, maybe go to one of your big chain stores around you and pick up a floor model or demo unit for less money. I know when i go to see a home and walk through, I go room by room deducting from the sale price how much I'd have to put into it to be happy to call it my home (thats just me ). If you say you are taking it with you, someone is still going to say ok, Im gonna deduct x amount of dollars because I have to buy a new frig...and that me be more then what your going to spend on one that will stay. Again, JMO. Good luck!

Buy a new one and LEAVE IT. I made the mistake of bringing my fridge with me in our move to NoNJ and it was a bad decision. The only good thing is that the house we bought in SC came with a fridge, so we have the extra one in the garage, BUT - it has no shelves right now since they all broke in the move. I haven't gotten around to ordering new ones.

Also, I'm not sure I'd go with a lower end one. As a buyer I would immediately replace a cheap one and it would just be an additional expense and inconvenience. How about a middle-of-the-road one? Sort of depends also on whether the house is a starter price range or an upper price range.

See now that's one of the things... I kind of regretted not taking my last house's fridge with me it was a stainless steel look-alike but don't think I could have sold the house with no fridge. It was basically the highlight of the whole place.

I would never bring a refrigerator on a move.
They're too heavy to be worth moving (I have a weight allowance that's maxed out) and, you have very little chance that it will fit in the new house anyway. Fridges are the toughest thing to fit properly.
